Pre workout. Caffine doesn't work? 24 January 2012 19:13 (permalink)
Hi everyone just wondering if anyone had any ideas. I work 6 days a week 8.30 - 5.30 and work out after 3 times a week. 1 problem is I get really tired from work. I am eating properly etc it's just the long hours of manual work tire me out. So wondered if there was anything that would get me going? If tried a few things with " high Caffine " wich they are.. But they have nI effect on me at all! I can take them and literally sleep no problem. Is there anything else out there that may work ? Thanks

Do you drink coffee or other drinks with caffeine in them?

They do say we'd all feel better going caffeine free - well after the nightmare first few weeks or so, never tried it but...

    What do you do?

so when you say you used to drink a lot of things with caffeine in it yu are NOT talking about supplements?

try a pre-wo suplement or even just caffeine tabs which are very cheap, very different to coffee/coke etc with caffeine in - jack3d, craze, reflex performance matrix etc etc, you can even get a sample sachet fro most BB shops. although i wouldnt take these everyday or any stim on a long term basis.

caffeine tabs may be your best bet. ebay.

Working out after a long day of manual labour cant be easy. Could you train before work when you are fresher?>

Unfortunatly not. I did try that but due to my commute by the time I left the gym I got tO work Over an hour late lol and at the end of the day im in the gym untill it closes. It's really annoying me tho as its not letting me use my full potential in the gym. Might have to do a couple lines or Pills haha no I'm joking. Maybe it's just something il have to deal with then

what is you do for work ? when i was working as a labourer on a building site it was very tiring training until i realised my mistake and then i made great gains and wasn't tired. what i did was scrapped half my training routine as work made up for it

In the sense you cut down rep volume? or exercise volume? As am looking to get back into labouring myself atm, but dont want it to interfear with my training. My training atm consists of 4 seshions a week ( usually between an hour to an hour half x3 cardio a week, 3 x abs a week) split is as follows. Rep range 8-12, often train to failure. 1 warmupset 1/2 working.
                      2 days on 1 off, 2 days on (Chest/Bi) (Legs) (Shoulders/Tri) (Back)

mainly things like number of exercises and sets done, remember you can often count labouring as training. make sure everything you do in the gym 'bang for buck' makes sense. strangely sometimes you will find isolation exercises better than compounds you just adapt your routine as and when needed

They do say we'd all feel better going caffeine free - well after the nightmare first few weeks or so, never tried it but...

Its true! I tried it and I was really bleary eyed for the first 2 mornings (I think I read somewhere caffeine has a 2 day half life?) but after that I slept like I have never slept before, it was fantastic. I knock coffee on the head for a few weeks every now and then just to get that deep sleep again, but I love my coffee (espechially Santos and Java) so i cant stop for good, also I work shifts...

im a mechanic, so lumping gearboxes out wheels just active all day long and on my feet all day. im working out 3 days a week doing 5x5 sets heavy lifting, split into push - pull - legs.
i eat around 3000 calories a day like i said try to keep it as close to every 3 hours as possible. i dont always have the same thing tho i mix it up a bit. although i probably can do with some help with my diet.

                                7am shake
                                scrambled egg brown toast

10am oat bar and some fruit

1pm chicken breast spinach and rice

4pm the same as 1pm 3 chicken breats spread out over the 2 meals.

7pm some fruit and oat bar

10pm steak sweet potato veg followed by steak.

but i mix it up with pasta, tuna etc differnt thinks. i do tend to have some snacks sometimes i cant lie such as yogarts etc just wear im burning it at work.
tonight i took 2.5 table spoons of pulse with water and it did work a bit. but its more than they recommend.

as for diet i would try and add in some protein into your 10am and 7pm feeds (won't help with the issue your posting about but will generally be an improvement).

as for training you can use the same advice i gave Liam86 (listen to your body, your work will count as training).

better to address the reasons why you are tired rather than having to rely on stims

what is you do for work ? when i was working as a labourer on a building site it was very tiring training until i realised my mistake and then i made great gains and wasn't tired. what i did was scrapped half my training routine as work made up for it

Thanks m8, makes sense tbh. I usually just listen to my body now, in terms of alternating restdays, depending on how i feel at the time/ musculer sorness etc, rather then following same day in day pattern as alot of trainers out there do it seems.
