Just out of interest what do you guys eat your TVP with, in terms of other foods with that meal?

Thanks

Have you tried making it sweet?

I notice you all use TVP savoury(Chilli, bolonese etc) i personally have it sweet like i'd have oats, yum!

Rich -  so you just rehyrdrate it and add some splenda or whatever?  Whats it like?  That could be a really cheap protein/carb meal for work.  Add some peanut butter for fat maybe?

Where do you buy TVP from and what do you use it for. Is it high in protein?

http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/Shopping/ProductDetails.aspx?Store=1&Product=58669

£1.35 for 375g bag.

250-300ml Hot water + 10 Sweetners dissolved + 100g dry Soya + tsp cinnamon = Mix it up, eat!
Cutting on a strict diet at the moment so dont allow it, but later ill be adding raisins and all types of goodness.
By the way i've tried sweeters + Vanilla, Strawberry, Cocoa, Pepper mint, Cocoa+Peppermint, Choco+vanilla and loads of other flavours but cinnamon is king(plus a good addition to ones diet).

yum yum yum - Sweet cinnamony lovelyness with 51g of protein, 2g fat and 21 carbs...muha!

Ive posted this numerous times, every time i got called crazy by everyone else who eats soyamince(tio/daveo and others have posted other recipes btw). I personally cant stand it in bolognese sauce, tastes like rubberyness...but sweet? yum.

As you know mate, I'm low carbing at the minute, but that could make a great cheap meal when I bulk again.  Even on a TKD style lean bulk.

What would it be like if I did this the night before and had it cold at work the next day?

Absolutely fine the next day.
I'm unsure of bacteria growth in TVP/soya mince if left hydrated for along time - So to be cautious i would keep it cool(fridge), or simply dont add water untill you get to work (Every place has a kettle right?) just mix up splenda/cinnamon/soya. Or to save more cash, crush the sweetners into fine powder and mix up :) .

TKD, whats that stand for? Something like "The Kash Death" diet  right? =p

Check out Seitan also, TIO unleashed this upon me and im trying to source some Wheat gluten now to make it(add water = Seitan).

Use the search for TVP recipes :)

Rich it needs ENgevita nutritional yeast flakes to go with it to make it a complete protein. Also it adds some good flavour to it.

If you can eat oats, i see no reason why anyone would dislike TVP the way i eat it (Assuming u like sweet/cinnamon obv haha).  If you dont, swap the flavour...Choco or perhaps even nutmeg? Pumpkin/pumpkin spice?

Ah plenty of hours spent in the kitchen experimenting :)

Just reiterate; this is an issue with MANY plant based protein sources not just gluten.

No mate i make seitan with it. I make it into sausage, pepperoni, steaklets, ground beef style. I even use it in protein pancakes as a flour replacer. Its quite versatile, fat free and low carb too.

They look amazing!!!

You got a PM tio, not final version still has errors but i definately like the format.

Here it is ladies http://img509.imageshack.us/my.php?image=proteincontentcopy.jpg   huge image.

Carb:pro ratio is exactly that, ammount of carbs you get to the ammount of protein you get. A high carb ratio would therefore be in things like rice(mainly carbs w/little protein).

From left to right is cheapest sources to most expensive. Peanuts are the cheapest, however note the VERY HIGH fat:pro ratio - This food will have a huge ammount of fat going along with its protein so not good for a low fat diet.

Food on the left with low carb and fat/pro ratios are therefore the best (Pigs liver anyone?).

When i can be assed ill get the 100% correct version up, note right now CHICK PEAS weren't corrected for drained weight along with some other products.
