Hi,
I got prescribed prozac years ago when I was depressedfollowing years of untreated bulimia.
Bernie
i had to stop it because i had a panic attack that i had to call ambulance, now i decided not to take anything
Yep, VERY scary and strange experience, tho managed not to call an ambulance, but my M&D were NOT impressed to be having to calm me down with a pot of T at 2am!
Prozac you really need to be on for 4-6 weeks minimum before you may see an effect. Be careful in the first few weeks as can sometimes in some cases increase depressive thoughts initially (and absurdly)! Minimum time on would be 6 months before you should come off if you decide you wouldn't want to be on it, unless it very badly affects you then you may want to come off sooner.
Bear in mind though, if you do come off do it under the advice of a Dr and taper the dose down.
Yep, only seemed to make me feel worse, and read a lot of anecdotal evidence of others bad experiences on prozac, I came off cold turkey and was ok, found exercise to be a MUCH better anti-deperssant.

But one thing ive found is that everyone responds to these things differently so until u try for yourself you dont really know what the outcome is going to be. You ask though because you want someone to tell you the best course of action but im afraid its down to finding out how your body responds yourself. 6 months ago my doc prescribed citalopram, and it has worked fantastic for me, i have only make myself sick a few times in 6 months which is the longest i'be gone without doing it for 5 yrs, it is very mild and there arent alot of side effects......although everyone is different :)
the only thing i can say for definite is DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL whilst on any antidepressants, and that i do talk from experience, bad experience hahahahaha
Can only agree with evetything here, everyone responds differently and just cos I had a bad experience with prozac doesn't mean you will. But do keep a diary maybe to assess how you're doing, it's hard to see the wood for the trees if it's not going well. But defo DO NOT drink! I also have notched up that not too pleasant an experience!
I would just end with the fact that there is soOo much medical evidence now that excercise is a VERY powerful anti-depressant and not the kind of obsessed excercise that we tend do leasn towards at BB'ers but a good old fashioned walk in the fresh air, looking at nature to try and extrovert yourself from those deep, dark introverted thoughts, powerful stuff.
