Red Kidney Beans & Continental Lentils - Ideas? (not chilli CC) 14 November 2009 18:16 (permalink)
I'm still on a search for a cheap diet, but have found some bargin protein sources.

Searching through the Asda website I have come accross 500g bags of dry beans and lentils, each for under £1. Per 100g there is 20g-24g of protein.

The catch is that I have to cook and prepare the beans and lentils before eating - which is an over night job.

However (planning ahead) I'm not sure what type of meals I could have that includes 300g-400g (estimated cooked weight) of kidney beans or Continental Lentils.

Any ideas?

Soup is a good one, easy to prepare in one go to make enough for a few meals.

          Do you eat rice?
If so prepare some rice in a pan and put some kidney beans in on top of the rice boil it all until it's cooked then all you need is a couple of chicken breasts/turkey etc and you got yourself a full meal, I eat this all the time as it's quick and easy to make but if your not too keen on the taste of rice bang in a vegetable Oxo cube when boiling the rice and it makes it taste (and look!) much better.
