Require Comments About Todays Workout 16 February 2010 22:43 (permalink)

Hi guys,

So after weeks of harrassing my mate to join the gym we have finally done it. I decided that i wanted to try out the 5x5 that James suggests in his "Beginner to Weights" thread at the top. However i changed it so we didn't do any dips. The reason for this is that i personally don't think I was ready for the dips after the previos 3 excercises.

My plan is to do as James says in his post and UP my weight every week we do this. I for one am trying to get in to this serious. Not for competition but for myself as i have been lying to myself every day saying im going to get in the gym for the past year now. Let me just say how much of a pleasure it was to finally get in and do something.

Ok so im doing one thing at a time. I know my diet is ALOT to do with my progress but before i sort that out im wanting to sort out my routine and my plan for what im going to work on for the next few months. How long should i actually work on a routine before i start to change it?

From what i have done today i personally do not feel as though there is enough there and im sure i could get one more excercise in there.... not sure really. Im sure it will start to feel much more as i up the weight and find my strength.

Today i started out on machines but after seeing that not many people were using free weights we went straight on there. I got a real boost by doing this personally because we was hmming and arring about whether to do it or not.

Also i hear people take things such as Creatine. Is this worth including in to my work out? Please could you tell me in laymans terms what it actually does and how it should react with me?... Im not wanting to get in to anything such as Steroids (yet)... but i would like to know of any other "body kicks" i could use to help.

I look forward to your comments. Oh and im aware my weight is quite light but was not sure where to start. I feel i will have a better understanding next week.

Can you not add in assisted dips if you are ready to do them unassisted yet?

I would use a routine for 6 to 8 weeks before changing it around.

My advice on supplements would be to firstly concentrate on your diet, you may find a protein supplement beneficial but as for creatine I would forget about it for the time being and steriods I would forget about completely!!

A decent diet, motivation a good routine and rest is all that is required.

Cheers for the input mate.  Im trying to eat healthily. Im not getting into it properly yet where i eat as much protein as possible but im trying to just eat clean food and get my routine sorted out first. I imagine that will be part 2 where i really sort out my diet.

do you think 6 weeks of doing this routine would give me good gains and difference in shape?

You should see some sign of gains from that work out after the 6 weeks. Your strength will also probably increase.

Why not add in some dumbbell pull overs for the end of the set, nothing to heavy just enough to get a decent stretch across the chest?

In my first 6 months the major difference I noticed was the increase in strength. I wouldn't say my appearance changed that much - that was latter on into my routine, around 3-4 months.

For the minute just keep your diet on real lock and then keep pushing yourself hard in the gym.

          Steroids?! Bin them off mate.
