Second Hand Clothes, do you wear them ?
07 February 2012 11:19
( permalink)
Serious question, my woman goes into thrift and second hand shops for her clothes and for the kids to, I dont complain but sometimes she gets stuff for me to , so as not to appear ungrateful I accept with a smile etc etc but in reality I hide them in the far off depths of the wardrobe, I know times are hard for everyone but I prefer to wear MY old clothes rather than someone elses and even save for a while for what I need, whats your opinion or views on this, in these times of hardship !

if you add the option "I would rather not but would do so if I had to" then I would vote for that.

All the time vintage stuff is seriously good. Picked up some nice old fashioned tweed jackets and sutff over the years. Whats the point in being snobbish about it. If its fit for purpose and is cheap then why not. Point in case bought second hand Duchamo shirt of eBay for £35 RRP £135 just because some guy had worn it twice im well off but cant be assed to waste £100 for no reason. Draw the line with underwear though the last pair of crotchless pants gave me crabs lol

Probably not but that's because the clothing I wear comes from Primark or outlet stores so is cheap enough already. Saying that though, if there was a specific item of clothing I really wanted and could only find it on eBay second hand, I'd wear it.

Yeah, my missus always on the hunt for a bargain. A lot of stuff in the Charity shops has never been worn BTW, a lot of the stuff she has got me has had the original clothes labels in it or still in packaging, like someone got it, decided they didnt like it and got rid.

I wouldnt say i would. but then again i have bought some stuff off ebay, which is allegedly new, but without tags. Ive got a load of mates who go into chartiy stores and get heaps of stuff. Personally. if i had to I would, but I wouldnt otherwise. If you can get past it being worn by someone else then its not an issue. I have found some shops are pretty cheap, primark, sports direct, etc. and thats for new.

LOL I can tell you something else that may shock. My missus used to have a part time job in the heart foundation charity shop, and a lot of people dump black sacks worth of clothes outsite. Part of her job was to go through the clothes and see what was worth selling which was about 20% of the stuff. The rest gets sold as rags and re-cycled. However she told me, and this is the honest truth that on multiple occasions she had gone through the sacks and had found donated pants with both yellow and brown stains, and knickers with red stains. Underwear doesn't get re-sold so why donate it!! Thats right, sh!t, p1ss and blood on underwear, that's no bullsh1t, some people are disgusting tramps! She jacked the job in pretty quickly

Damn I'm going through my clothes in my head and I think I have a second hand shirt and a second hand top too! And one other shirt I'm not sure about. And a pair of jeans. WTF I might have to change my answer from no to yes, as although I don't think I've bought any second hand clothes I have been given them and worn them

I went to the gym once and didn't put a T-shirt in my bag. Instead of going all the way back home I went into the age concern shop and bought a box fresh T-shirt for £2. I was well pleased with it, to the extent that I'm actually wearing it now as I type this. Bargain city.

If you want better quality stuff then go to the charity shops in nice areas. Rich folks cast offs are gonna be better.

My sister always used to by quality stuff and never use, wear it. I remember once she had a clear out of her bags and belts etc. Now these were Gucci bags, still with dust covers on, never worn, around £400-500 a piece and she handed them in, as well as some belts, again, never worn, buckles were seperate fromt eh belts etc. The woman on teh counter took them in and once she had a look, you knew they were never going to be put on public sale. That was in near Angel.

I would, I have in the past but haven’t for quite a while. Years ago when I was much younger and not earning much money I would buy shirts/trousers from charity shops for work wear £1 rather than £20. Like LMC says though, Primark and the like have made clothes almost a disposable commodity anyway.

Well I guess I can't complain to much, I just find it hard to wear them and feel good about myself, but on the plus side, we have been abroad 5 times in the last two years......which is nice
