Shoulders & Arms

I have recently recovered from a left shoulder and up arm injury from a crash I was involved in but when hit the gym to do some light weight training I found that my left shoulder was so weak that it was shaking like mad and doing very light bench press it started to hurt. I could hardly lift any weight at all and ended up either using the lightest dumbbells or even 2.5kg plates. Has anyone know that best way forward as I don't want to make my arm worse by training?
