Shovelling Snow
06 February 2012 10:11
( permalink)
I woke up Sunday morning to find at least 5 inches covering the paths, drive and road leading down the cul-de-sac to the main road. So in an effort to ensure the Monday morning commute would be stress free, I decided to grab the snow shovel and work my way down to the High Street. 2 hours later - I reached my goal. After a nice hot bath last night, and 8 hours sleep, I have woken up with the best arm and back DOMS I've ever had. Anyone else had this today ?

You are a credit to your community. I bet people were sitting in thier living rooms in front of the fire looking out at you with not a care in the world for your hard toil. I just rock-salted the driveway before the snow came :)

I did this last year as we had been snow bound for about a week. Felt very pleased with myself - about an hour after I finished the snow plough came along!

posted a rant about this last year, i cleared virtually the whole of the main road of the estate, got about 2 people helping in parts. never again. did get some impressive pain in my left forearm, the lower one when i'm shovelling due to being right handed, so i started using an overhand grip with that hand, was far better.

At home I usually have to shovel snow 2-3 times aweek, from november through march. IMO its the best cardio Ive ever done (bearing in mind Im a lazy fekker and hate cardio!). Ive been out shovelling snow in temperatures down to -30c, and still come into the house after an hour with my clothes under the snowsuit literally wringing wet. Im sure its not the only activity that would do this - digging a ditch would probably have the same effect... there's probably quite a few 'real world' activities that would knock spots off doing 40 mins on a treadmill in an airconditioned gym somewhere...
