Smartphone newbie needs suggestions for one

Hi guys. I've never had a smartphone as I use a laptop/pc for the interwebs and a phone/basic mobile for making phone calls. I don't want to be left behind. What is a good medium range smartphone? By medium I mean not more than £250, I can't see myself shelling £599 for an iphone 4S or £499 for a new Samsung Galaxy S2. - iphone 3GS? - iphone 4? - Huawei Blaze - wish it had 5MP camera and 3.5 inch screen - Android e.g. San Francisco II/T-mobile Vivacity? - Samsung Galaxy S2 for £250 from ebay (don't know if its legit or not says new lol) Or do I stay the way I am and wait for the cost of a reasonable smarphone to fall? T-mobile have raised the prices of the Wildfire S and I wouldn't buy the Wildfire S unless it was £99 or less. Any help appreciated.

Jack About i prefer iPhones mate - can you not get one free on contract? I have seen phones4u doing one for £31 per month plus £99 for the phone - still a bit dear. Apple made $13 billion the other day - can't see myself shelling out silly money so that they can make $20 billion next year.

Reborn Contract the S2, S3 is coming out soon so prices will be good. S2 is fantastic. I will in all probability wait for the S2's price to fall. Having waited this long I have come to learn which are the spam/bogus sellers on ebay etc and the usual tricks of private sellers advertising used galaxy s2's as "new" then advising of scratches, or the packaging is opened etc etc.
