So when did celebrity become a career?

So minor Z list celebs make the chav scum do what they do?  Can't agree for one second.
 
Tell me, the meaningful values come from a time where beating your kids was ok, kids should be seen and not heard, gays were monsters and so on...
 
...it wasn't better, it was simply different.  People did equally bad things in different ways.

I clearly said that 'celeb culture' was a symptom, not a cause, ie that chav scum and empty celebrity are both results of a similar mentality on behalf of society...  NOT that one causes the other.
 
And I no-where said that 'victorian' moral values were better than present ones, only that present ones have some serious flaws. To say there are problems with today is in no way the same as saying that there werent any problems with yesterday. I agree that past societal values also had their (very) bad point, as well as their good points - just as current societal values have good points as well as bad.
 
Does that mean we cant have an opinion on what current 'bad' values are? Or seek for an improvement?
 
I repeat my position - shallow, selfish, negative and superficial values are detrimental to society generally - and dole cheats, talentless z list celebs 'famous for being famous', bankers paying themselves bonuses for losing other peoples money and a whole variety of modern problems all stem from similar negative attitudes.
 
But of course if someone chooses to spend their time gawping at the lives of z list celebs rather than doing/thinking about something more constructive thats their choice - its just not one I have much respect for (but then maybe they dont have much respect for some of mine). Such is life....

I understand where you are coming from.  They bore me to tears, I have no interest.  But, they have their places IMO.  Course like you say its all opinions, no right answers.

I think its great that we (and others) can disagree without being disagreeable - I like a good debate and you're a good guy and its always a pleasure talking with you on that there t'internet. One of the things that makes MT General a place worth visiting.
