As a functional movement putting a heavy weighted bar across the back of your neck and sqatting to the floor isnt really a wise move at all.

Surely if you're putting the bar across the back of your neck that's poor form as it should be across the shoulder blades??

I'm all for squats ass to grass stylee

yEAH, lets see what the bio peeep's have to say but this was mainly about my waist bulking up, the debate has for sure jumped ship.

However im all for bigger/ bulkier ab's but my waist seems to be getting thicker, which isnt why im squating the bulk its landing on my oblique's...

    Ha, yeah maybe.

I'm fairly confident that gyms are full of people who get back ache from god awful leg press machines so I'm up for that.

I'll hang around on here for the biomechanics experts to arrive, they'll no doubt put us both in our place, as usual!

pt man you would need to consider all of the exercise you are doing rather than just blaiming the squat for a thickening waist buddy.
You should use your trunk muscles for every exercise you do.
I doubt that squats alone would be responsible for a noticeable thickening of your waist but more that generally the exercises you are using are defining your obliques etc
OR its your diet, without seeing you in person its impossible to tell.
