27th July 2014
Week Three, Day 1/4: Squats and deads ~ 85%+2.5 kg

Today was my worst performance of the programme so far. I don't think I've recovered very well from the squat marathon on Wednesday, even with upped calories and not much beer. My hips are really tight and fatigued and it's stopping me driving my knees out and today just felt awful.

Squats with belt
  • Warm-up: No belt: Bar x 10, 60 x 5, 5, 5; 90 x 2; 110 x 2; 140 x 1; 160 x 1
  • Working sets, belt:  165 x 5, 5, 5
Required reps were 4-6. The fifth rep was not easy on any of the sets.

Deads (no belt)
  • Warm-Up: 60 x 5; 110 x 3, 150 x 1; 180 x 1
  • Working sets: 210 x 3, 3
Required reps were 3-6. NONE of the reps were easy. I was very tired going into this and the weight felt 20kg heavier.

Abs, rotator cuffs, stretching and rolling

Hung on by the fingertips to get the reps. I've been stretching loads but not rolling. Did a bit today and it was agony. So i need to be adding this to the week. Next squat day is Thursday, thank god, so hopefully I can recover and stay supple.

Definitely realising how much work is required to be good at this stuff.

Time to pack up some stuff for the house as we get moved into rented tomorrow. Hoping to complete on this one and the in one in Cambridge on Friday.

My new sparkly journal

Because let's face it, The Ox knows that all of us deep down only care about 1RM's!

May have been hard but the fact is you did achieve the required rep targets so all good.

Coming back down down my yard eh? Don't recall anyone asking if that was OK

Still a good effort getting the 3x5 at that weight.
