Strange phone number

Have had a strange number call me twice this week (on landline phone) 00301. I didn't answer first time and have literally just answered the second call now but didn't say anything and they hung up without saying anything. Anyone know where this originates from?

I usually google any odd numbers 99/100 they are someone like Scottish Power etc. type it in google and no doubt it will be answered on a forum somewhere for you

I do that too  but this one doesn't give much away other than a foreign accent on the other end. No one seems to have nailed it down to a company other than one saying they represented BT but that could be anyone.

Answer it with a rape alarm siren thing next time..... they won't ring again after that

00 shows that its an international number (on a mobile it will show as '+' instead of '00') 
 
30 is the country code for greece

0030 is for Greece.

it's the microsoft scam:
 

00301 is a caller from a fake Microsoft scam company, the number is generated on the internet so don't try to locate it using area codes, it's coming out of india They claim to represent Microsoft and asked me to perform some commands, I know the scam so I followed along for just a bit, these idiots are trying to get you to check your event viewer knowing that it will show some small mundane error and then claim that it's badly infected and ask you to download an anti-virus which will further infect your PC.

no problem, but don't bother answering, it many put you in their "whitelist" which is a list of active numbers. I think I was whitelisted since I keep getting a ton of these now :(

My answering machine answered first time, second time I picked up but didn't speak.

I then just start to ask more about the company she works for, where she's calling from and where they got my number from. I then told her she'd called a residential number registered with TPS and as they had a company in the UK they were breaking the regulations blah blah blah then asked for my number to be removed from their database and not to call again.

ive had the microsoft scam twice this week, soon as i spoke to them i knew something was up but just played along for a while to see what kinda scam it was, they wanted me to take out a warranty on windows.
 
the next time they rang i asked if they are selling me anything, they said no. to which i replied "well i dont want a warranty!" she hung up lol
