he's okay mate .. he got into MMA for a bit but realised that weights was his first love. He's just lifting hard and heavy these days .. he managed an 800lb rack pull from above the knees the other day

RE: Summer Size and Strength Journal - 02 July 2008 18:24
Cheers oasis .. I did the gironda thing cos I was bored mainly but I do like to mix thing sup sometimes. Am tempted to do the arm w/o again this saturday cos I really enjoyed it (and my arms looked brill afterwards ;)

Today was legs

Squats 60/5 100/5 140/5 160/2 170/3 150/5 5 had silly pumps in my lower back and water in my legs so had to foerego front squats
Machine hack (lying on back) 100/5 120/5 140/5 5
Sissy squat BW 2x15
Pull thru's stack on cable machine 2x10 - lower back couldn't take more
Negative accentuated leg ext (up with 2 down with 1) 60/12 8

Legs looked like water filled balloons afer I'd finished and pants were spray on ..walk back to work was v uncomfortable. All I've wanted to do all afternoon is go to sleep

I'm doing HIT for the next say 4/5/6 weeks or till I feel blown up from it..I then as a rule return to a more conventional 8x8..I'll keep popping in here though..as your approach does appeal to me..

boar .. I'm a reasonably lean 15st 7lb at the mo.

Tony .. aw thanks .. and I thought you popped in here because you care :(

Another plus .. my brother has rigged up a viking press using the standing calf raise at the gym so looking forward to giving that a go tomorrow :)

Should be fun. I used to kind of viking press the shoulder press machine in my crappy Fitness first (till I got told off as it comes off the ground). I enjoy the dynamics of the leverage, forward motion etc on the shoulder.

Sounds like you get the chance to do a lot of interesting and less common exercises where you train. Great way to keep things varied.

RE: Summer Size and Strength Journal - 04 July 2008 17:51
Heavy upper body day today (onoy work sets listed)

Decline bench (from a dead stop off teh pins at chest height) 120k/5, 3 PB!!! not that heavy I know but as a poor bencher I am over the moon with that :) 100k/9
S/arm rope pulldown stack/14, 11, 9
Gironda dips on hammer dip machine 160k/ 15, 10, 8
Dumbell row 55k/ 3x6
Viking press (on calf raise machine) 80k, 7, 6,5 then drop to 40k/7... these were awesome .. really felt these in my delts .. deffo a keeper
Cable preacher 60/7 50/7 07 then a drop to 20k/7
Lat raises on machine stack/10,8

Starting to thicken up noticablely but staying reasonably lean, very pleased with my size and condition at the mo. Am starting to question whether or not do another bb'ing comp next year, mainly driven by the potential expense. As a family man I have a lot of other financial commitments which do limit my bb'ing budget and I can't expect these to suffer due to my desire to compete. On the other hand I am toying with the idea of doing an amateur strongman comp if I can get my strength up to a reasonable level (which I think is quite do-able) as it is another challenge and less costly than a bb'ing comp. But all just thoughts at the moment.

Yer welcome mate I admire your diversity..and how you seem to keep training interesting..I'm not saying your training isn't results orientated it obviously is..also this "garden training" is starting to appeal as well..

Re: garden training .. I think Tony has started a trend. TBH it would be very hard for me to get to the gym at the weekend so this suits.

With regard to my training it is based on the westside for skinny bastards (terrible name) template by Joe DeFranco and the beauty of it is that it is a template .. the structure of the workout split remains the same i.e. heavy upper day, posterior chain, light upper day, lower body but there is a selection of exercises to choose from so you are not just restricted to traditional squat, deads, bench etc. I really enjoy the variety and as long as my lifts are moving upward (and there is some development of mass) I'm happy.
