Supplements. Online or retail/gym? 09 March 2010 16:58 (permalink)
Do most people here buy supps online, or is their gym prices competitive?   Ive been looking at a few products, obviously limited in my gym and it is all CNP stuff in the main, so pretty expensive.

How do your gym or retail prices compare to online?  Im sure you would pay more in a gym, and dont mind that but if im gonna be stung ie twice the price, then id think again.

Anyone buy from their gym? any opinions?

Cheers

I started buying online two months ago and I'm never buying retail again. It's not really the fault of retailers, they just have so many overheads they can't possibly compete with online suppliers. As for buying supplements from the gym, you must be kidding. I can't speak for anybody else, but my gym charges extortionate amounts for supplements, even compared to regular retail.

      Ditto kane.

my local retailers very expensive,i appreciate they have over heads but it costs me enough on food, gym fees, meds ect so i have to save somewhere.

I use ss healthfoods and have now switched to bb warehouse as there service is excellent and prices are half of my retailer..

^Exactly, I actually feel kind of bad sometimes. The guy I used to buy suppies from is really sound, always gave me loads of free stuff and gave top advice. But I think he was shafted even more because of the amount of tax he has to pay on getting his stock into the country (Ireland is a great auld place). I simply couldn't afford to keep buying there.

I'm using Predator and Bulkpowders at the moment, both great services. And even the top of the price range stuff from Pred is still less than half of what I would pay for it in a shop.

Yep, thought as much really.  Cheers guys!

Any thoughts on where to get from? obviously the ones advertised on MT, any others?  (ive already looked at predator and bulkpowders, and the one ive bought most from is myprotein)

          Cheers

I've never got anything from a shop, even as a stop gap... Only ever used MP/Amazon/Century Supplements that I can think of.

the gym i train it at sells most of the more popular CNP products but usually at the RRP price, so a tub of something like Pro-GF would be around £44, were as on the web its more like £34 delivered.

my gym also sells single Flapjacks for £1 and sachets of Pro-MRs for £2.10, so some items arent too bad.

Still, i always prefer buying online at the best price, every penny counts now a days.

Always online, theres no way I would buy in a gym.. maybe high st if i was in the area of monster or deep blue as they have the same prices in store, but apart from that all online!

Depends on the price etc...  if there's not much in it - I'll support local business all the way - i don't mind paying a pound or two more for that and picking up the product there and then, especially having real people I can talk to rate the product etc....

Some online deals though are nob-on, and you have to take them!! Also - My Protein occasionally gets my cash if I am not buying 'branded', they have some products that are great for the £££

I personally feel that gyms take the p1ss with prices in general....its been going on a long long time!

Ive always felt that if you get something on the cheap (ie a trade price with up to 60% off in the case of some manufacturers) then if you load the prices to RRP you are effectively ripping off your customers. However a lot of guys feel loyal to their gyms and still pay the extra.Ive heard horror stories of what guys pay for certain supplements and also stories of price fixing.

Some of it amazes me no end.....tubs of cheap mass gainer bought in for £20 being sold at £55 etc.I found that to be pretty offensive tbh....I know myself if I ever found that out I would never buy from that gym again.
I personally would feel pretty damn guilty if I fleeced my members for extortionate amounts of money on everyday items.
Some prices I have witnessed 1st hand in gyms are beyond any justification.

I feel that some gyms who specialize in certain brands (such as only sell Sci-MX , or only sell USN) can offer very competitve prices , however a lot of gym s actually buy from supplement stores who offer trade prices.

So what you will find is that many gyms will buy theyr supplements from online stores and therefore it can be cheaper to buy online, a lot of online stores offer free delivery these days aswell so you dont have to worry about the delivery charges.
