Time of month...does anyone take special supplements to support temporary absence of this during competition training.  My doc wasn't concerned about it since she knows it's just for a season and said it will resume after.

Thanks

Mine disappear whenever I train more than a few days a week, and bodyfat around the 20% level. This generally isn't dangerous as long as it's only for a 'season'. When I was a distance runner I didn't menstruate for 5 years. I wasn't the classic underweight runner either, 5'4" weighing in at around 8st 2  -8st10 and 21% bf. Anyway got the chance to take part in some sports research where they found I was losing bone mass as a result of no periods - yup I was halfway to osteoporosis. So they then put me on the combined pill which brought them back. I've had to stop that pill now as I was having serious migraine attacks which put me at high risk of a stroke, and was making me feel pretty rubbish.

I've been told that high level athletes stop training for 6-8 weeks a year to have a couple of periods, that this is enough to keep your body healthy.  So if it's only for a few months you should have no problems, anything longer than that and it could cause problems. I take calcium supplements and of course weight training is recommended since it stimulates your bones.
I am not sponsored by anyone but I have now found a protein powder I really, really like!

Thanks GN, yes usually regular as clockwork, just since I've been training for competition since April/May.

Think its probably down to BF being 13% mark, am 5.5 and weight is 9.12 mark, do weight bearing exercise and just started taking good quality calcium, magnesium supplement which also has vitamin C & malic acid (viridian)

Doc said should resume after competition training. She did mention red clover?

Red clover has isoflavones which is why she may have suggested it, but I don't think there has been evidence showing that it will reduce chances of osteoporosis?  After your competition, they should resume and I don't think you should worry. It is for a relatively short amount of time and I know it happens to quite a few female competitors.
