Well....I went to watch the Silverstone half marathon today as my brother and his mate were in it.

My brothers mate was there to hopefully win it, it's a strong field and a grand in prize money...he went through 3 miles in 15 minutes. My bro was just under 18 minutes.

I thought back to this little comp on MT and my hard fought 19 and a half minute 3 miler LOL
It's finally arrived....PM Neb for swaps!

i did 3 miles today for sport relief in 19:22 , i was pretty fooked !! but happy with sub 19:30

i wouldnt mind seeing some of these 70+ pressups, so can someone get a vid camera out.

not that hard to flim , its not that i dont believe you (because i do) but im fairly fit and strong and cant get past 40 (last 3 tries 39,39,40) so to improve by 5,10+ is some going.

I recon I'm good for 10 lol

I'm going to try the 2000 meter row in sub 8 minutes tomorrow. I usually do fairly longer distances on the rower but will be insteresting to see how I do over a shorter but quicker pace

The test involves running between two points that are 20 meters apart. The interval between each successive beep reduces, forcing the athlete to increase speed over the course of the test, until it is impossible to keep in sync with the recording.
When i do the test i allow myself 1 missed bleep - but when a total of 2 beeps are missed its time to stop

Just a note on the Concept 2 Rower...

Of the 10 resistance settings, Level 10 will be much harder to pull but will give you a greater distance per stroke, whereas Level 1 will be a much easier pull but give you less distance per stroke.

Therefore the big, strong, less CV fit guys/gals might want to try a higher setting; the lighter speed merchants might choose a lower level.

I, personally change resistance depending on the distance I'm doing - higher for short distances, lower for longer rows.

Hope this helps.

Sam

I suppose I'd better post a time soon and put my money where my mouth is

About the plank hold position. I tried it and during the time my back gives a slight arch but my toes and forearm are still the only body parts supporting my weight from hitting the floor. With that said about the slight arch, is that ok? or need to have a straight back at all times?

Im Back! I finally broke the 7 minute barrier on the conept2000row with a time of 6.59! very close indeedee! I don't think i will be beating that time for a while...but you never know.

Also 8.57 for the 100 burpee challenge, my new favourite exercise! I was in shock at how hard this challenge is, its took me several attempts to get my time down to under 9 minutes. (my first time several weeks ago was a pathetic 11.38, i was exhausted after 30 burpees!).
Anyway special times they may not be, but i am happy with my progress so far.

Cheers

A 2000m row sub-7 is very special indeed - best I've ever done is 7:04. One day I hope to be brave enough to attempt it again

thanks sam. I know what you mean mate, i won't be brave enough to try and beat my time for a while now. I was stuck just above 7 minutes for a while, then went in fresh yesterday and just hammered it. After jubilation came the dizzyness, sickness, white hot lungs etc etc!!
P.S thats a damn fine marathon time mate, do you still have your training plan or was it down to lots of experience already?? its just that im doing the London marathon next year and with a time like yours i wouldn't mind getting a few pointers from yourself.

Not too much experience of marathons as such - it was only my second road marathon.

I had a fairly sound endurance base through triathlon, cycling etc. Didn't actually do a lot of running - probably only 2 or 3 runs a week. Did a few races in the build up - 10 milers, half marathons and a 20 miler around 3 weeks before - all good experience and helps you judge pace.

The main thing is to decide on your pace and stick to it no matter what happens - you will always feel great in the first half and lousy in the last 6 miles - fact!

E-mail me if you wany more specific advice.

Sam
