ORIGINAL: Neb can we please clarify what we are actually calling a press up? To quote from the YMCA Fitness Assessment Manual...Standard Push Up Test: 'The client the lowers the body until the upper arm is parallel with the floor, keeping the back straight throughout and extending back up to a straight-arm position' Nothing about touching the chest to the floor. well this sucks, in an hour or so ive gone from first in pushups to third.... but if we are only going to parrallel then i reckon i can get more reps out. once boar confirms its only to get the arms parrallel to the floor i shall atempt it as such.

Lol I have no reason to lie, I've worked as a fitness instructor and personal trainer for a few years now and I'm about to open up my own gym in a couple of weeks time. My whole life is dedicated to fitness and resistance training. Lumpy believe what you wish, but I can assure you I have done 88 full range press-ups within a minute.....and I know people who can do plenty more then this, it really isn't that high a score in the general scheme of things! Thank you both to Integra and Trident for sticking up for me.

I have done 24 full range wide grip chin-ups before, I will give the plank a blast soon.....but I have done a weighted plank with 105kg on my back for over a minute.

ORIGINAL: kerr616 some impressive figures being thrown around, nice going - i now have to beat 44 press ups ffs why 44, you just want to beat me I did those in shoes and half a suit on my lunch hour! Im doubting i could do 88 though, even if i based my training around beating that. My arms are fully extended and i lower to a couple of inches off the floor. We do about 300 push ups a night in thai so i thought id do pretty well Im gonna try a few of the others tomorrow

Thank you both to Integra and Trident for sticking up for me. Im with you, i have a mate like you, plays professional rugby but his whole life is fitness, i literally mean theres nothing else. Ive seen him do various things like a handstand clap press up, tripple clap press ups, 3 sets of rope chins etc. If you know you have done it, then what does it matter.

88's a good number - very believable for an ultra fit guy. My recent best was around 72 I think, but that was a few months ago before I started training heavy - will have a crack today and see if I can beat 50... L8terz

I would hope everyone does full range pressups, they may have some technical rule for official records but a nice full ranger is what tests your mettle !! kinglean mate - yea,use a smaller dumbell , i'll just put it on the board ! the main thing is everyone has a go at stuff , and im not getting any love for the 100 burpee challenge and lets get bleep testing !! all you need is an MP3 player or a cd player .... park your car up in a quiet spot and blast it from your stereo ...10-15 mins ..BOSH your done !!

Re the Press Up thing. I must admit I think 88 is achievable. My PB for this is 76, but that was a few years back - I've had 3 shoulder operations since then, and am waiting for a fourth as I type, so I won't be trying this test for a good while!! When I did 76 I was going absolutely flat out for the full minute. At the end I was totalled - if I'd have had to do 1 minute 10 seconds then I still think I'd have only managed 76! I tried a second set about 2 minutes after I did this and I could only just manage 40-odd, but 88 is a definite I think - I honestly believe it's do-able.
