Great idea. When I used to a lot of martial arts, football and middle distance running, I ran my 3 mile route in just under 18 minutes. That was 8-10 years ago. I stopped running so much and football for years. Ran it 2 days ago after not running for about 6 months and it took 28 minutes!!!!!

How about bench 70% of bodyweight as many reps as possible in 60 seconds? Bar to chest, full extension. Running this in my gym at the moment and is V popular as everyone is into benching.

There's a bloke on Gym Jones who is logged at 64 full overgrasp pull ups, that is immense! No kipping either
The race is long... and in the end, it's only with yourself.

When i do my wide grip chins, i let my arms go to full extension on the way down and bring it all the way back up after pausing, so theres no swing. With this i managed 16 reps other day at the gym, after doing rows so i was a bit knackered.

OK - I'll join in temporarily. I've not been well of late, so (excuses excuses) I will resubmit my totals in a few weeks. But for now: Chin-ups - nearly every week I do 15 chins routinely. I can do more, but can't proove it yet! So enter 15 for now, but I'm sure I'll get a few more out (28 though is unlikely!!) Press-ups in 1 minute. I tried this last night and did 30 in less than 40 seconds, then got knackared. So enter 30 for now please, but I'm confident there's a few more in a few weeks. As for the other events - errr, maybe another time

Good to see you joining in James! Just done my first 3 miler for the test...I say first as I'll do more. 19mins 38 secs....pleased to get sub 20 and as it's my first fastish sesh since mid November iirc then I've gotta be happy. I know I can go faster and as I drop some lard then I should hopefully get a lot faster I'll post my route later once I remember my login details for mapmyrun.

LMAO....I'm actually asthmatic and used to use a nebuliser....years ago like when i was pretty bad with it. Boar, to go from your large former frame, I'm guessing not really match fit at that weight either?, to then come down in weight and be running 3 consecutive 7 minute miles in such a short space of time suggests to me that you can go much faster mate....very impressive

I was incredibly unfit @ 17 stone - to the point of struggling to climb in the back of the van and not really being able to get on the floor to help the kids with stuff - jigsaws etc the one thing i have in m favour is determination, i can really push myself and will continue to do so - and keep mook in my dust trail !!!

This is a great competition. Thanks for adding me boar - though all I must emphasise that I will easily beat my own totals - those 30 pressups were without trying hard. So be prepared to stand aside guys The reason I like this is because there are two events where there is no reason I can't excel in. I never excel in anything in sports, I'm averagely strong despite my size, crap at running, not a great swimmer, etc, etc. But on those two there is no reason why I can't give a leader a run for the money - sure I'll have to improve alot, but the improvements I can make are very achievable - be nice to have something to aim for. I dare say many other members feel the same and will be able to excel themselves in 1-2 other events. be great to watch everyone progress over the months. Just an idea boar, but maybe say every quarter, copy and paste the first post into a post within the topic, then we can see quarterly progresses, which would otherwise be lost with the edits? We'll announce this in Feb's newsletter - do you want to or shall I?
