RE: Whats your best ................... - 26 January 2008 15:05 ( #161 )
Did my first swim this afternoon LOL 32 lengths.... 20mins 30 secs....I could say I'm p1ssed off but thinking about it I'm pretty pleased as I know I can go faster when fitter. Haven't swam in months, I'm carrying too much fat but my biggest excuse of the day is........too many fcuking people in the pool LOL....I must have swam two lengths extra by swimming around people lol (slight exageration)

at least it gives me something to aim at

I need to perfect my crawl, most of the above was done breaststroke, if I try crawl I can go really fast for a legth or two then I'm fcuked.

Any one got any tips on getting a long, slow looking stroke that's actually fast in the water?...I kick my legs too much I think which wastes energy

The burpees are impossible to measure as nobody puts the same effort into each jump.

That plank hold looks a piece of p1ss....I've no doubt that it's pretty tough, just one of those that initially you look at and think you could stay like that for ages then come in with a time of 20 seconds lol

anyone can cheat at anything - its not massivly important if one members burpees are of dubious quality - its all taken on trust,so i expect at the very least a half hearted jump (just like mooks !!!)

awsome planking mate !!!

To get a sub 18 min run you have to really be giving it some.

I take my hat off to anyone that gets sub 18min

I had to work my ass of to get that time, when I started I was running 3miler in about 24mins!

I look forward to the HONEST sub 18min

bloody hell mate....I did a 16 years ago and have done multiple sub 18's last year whilst training for more endurance type stuff (even at 33)

sub 15 is impressive, sub 18 is pretty average (for a half decent runner) it's just under 6 minute miling and achievable for most

I've just done a 19.38 after not running for ages and living on beer for the past 6 weeks

To imply someone may be bull****ting by running a very modest say...17.40 is plain wrong, there are loads who could run it

If my maths serves me right then to get about 17.30min for 3miler, it would take running at about 16.5kmph for the whole time.

I just find that so difficult not being a natural or competition runner, and the guys I spoke to (not comp runners) seem to have the same standards as me.

I must be diluded

Maybe I'm just more sh1t than I thought

I hate running lol but I have no choice.

Do you just have to do alot of interval training for such times?

I edited slightly as not to offend anyone LOL 18 mins is average imo for a half decent runner..sh1t was OTT LOL

I've always ran mate, from the age of 4/5. At 11 I was competing at county level and have ran at some half decent competitions....I was by no means brilliant but I guess some just naturally find it easier to run.

Intervals, long runs (10 mile+) short fast runs, hill work....a lot of bike work as well helped me get back to sub 18. I'll never get down to 16 mins as I'll never be that light again. As I said though, it's not brilliant, there are some on here who've ran 24mins for 5 miles so that's a sub 15, 3 miler which p1sses on me LOL.

Just keep working hard mate and you'll keep knocking the seconds off

Also, please don't get me wrong sub 18 over 3 miles and indeed your time are no way easily achievable for joe public, that's not what i meant but for many half decent club runners then 18 minutes for 3 miles is pretty average

And maybe I won't get down to 18's on this comp, I'll give it a go

i doubt i could do 3 miles in a car in that time

i like jogging nice and slowly i think i did about 4 miles in 40 minutes once, not running fast though

im now into sprint training my own way (jog to a lamp post, sprint to the next as fast as you can, jog to the next, etc) good fun and good for getting people looking at you proper funny
can be hard if you misjudge the lamp posts though as some are further apart

give it a go
