Well done mate ! I think people , including myself , forget how much harder a proper PL paused bench is.
No biggie like, there are a lot worse things for you than using steroids, I mean I probably shouldn't have been smoking crack or getting into bar fights at your age TBH - drab4

Brilliant performance mate, especially for a first try. Am pleasently surprised by the 170kg squat because like you say, in the gym, you can never be 100% that your squats hit depth, but that is brilliant. Slightly surprised you bench wasn't a bit higher, as for the dead, first class, and a M1 qualifying total at your first attempt, excellent!

Cheers Bill I've always gone as deep as I can on the squat but I didn't know if it was deep enough as I don't have a super wide power lifting stance, I find it too uncomfortable. I'd like to think that the next time I compete the 115 bench will be there and maybe even a 120 but I need to do more paused rep training.

Well done pal! Great news that you qualifyed for Brits Unequipped! I'll be down there too so we'll be lifting in the same flight!! There is def a difference pausing a rep in te gym and going to a command. Often the refs are a bit too strict I find and don't have enough urgency about giving the command. Often helps to practice the commands in the last couple of weeks in training.

Cheers Iain I think the Brits are some way off yet, it will be a while before I'm worthy of lifting in such esteemed company.

I know what you're saying mate, but I think until I've got a 200+ squat and a 250+ dead I'll just look silly.

40 plus I know what you're saying mate, but I think until I've got a 200+ squat and a 250+ dead I'll just look silly. It's your call but YOU WILL NOT LOOK SILLY. Noone will even have that cross their mind. You have achieved the qualifying total so that is that. You'll have a great experince, which will then help you achieve the above goals. If you get given a chance to lift at a British Champs then take it. You'll never be certain when the next chance comes your way! Unless you carn't physically make it; work, social, money etc, I strongly urge you to compete in Oct.

You certainly make a good point Iain and the very least you've done is got me thinking. It's not so much what everyone else will think, indeed I have seen nothing but great support at all levels whenever I've been to any PL comp. Also, I have no problem coming last, everyone starts somewhere and like you say the experience will do me good. I'll certainly give it some serious thought, as well as yourself I know that FKAOG is going and a few others.

The 180 was never on, don't know why I tried it. Top of right hamstring still painful but getting better.

Cheers Bill I've only got 2 days of training this week so I'm just winging it. Then it's 4 weeks until the North Midlands comp so I'll go back to 4 days a week doing individuals. I'll do a week of 5's, a week of triples, a week of singles then a week off.

Solid work. "No heroics", that should some up most sessions I think. Particulary now. With only a month of so to go till your next comp the worst thing would be to actually push too hard or do too much. I know this from painfull (pride anyway) experince lol
