The 40 Plus Journal Part 2 - The Search For Strength
-

( #1 )
Welcome to the new journal. I'll be training for strength and hoping to enter a Power Lifting comp in 2009 whilst keeping my weight around 82 - 83 kg. The British qualification for my age at that weight unequipped is 460 kg so that's the first big goal I'll be working towards, of course there will be several smaller goals along the way. I stopped drinking alcohol on New Years Day and used the 2 MT Shape Up comps to sort out my diet, drop some weight and feel happier about the way I look. November 2007 16 st 4 lb November 2008 12 st 6 lb Tonights training Squats 1 x 10 bar only, 1 x 5 60 kg, 1 x 5 80 kg, 5 x 5 100 kg Hyper Extensions 5 x 8 BW only Rope Crunches 1 x 12 12 plates, 1 x 12 13 plates, 1 x 12 14 plates, 1 x 12 15 plates, 1 x 7 15 plates I'll be doing Hyper Extensions at least twice a week to strengthen my lower back, it's been my weakest link for far too long now.

No IB, thats at 82.5k, Masters1. At your weight of 122k, it would be 630k to qualify. Good luck with the goals 40+

Your progress in the last 3 months has been impressive mate. I'll be following this journal for sure! So is 460kg the combined weight of squat, bench and deads?

The_Goat Your progress in the last 3 months has been impressive mate. I'll be following this journal for sure! So is 460kg the combined weight of squat, bench and deads? I've been very impressed with your progress too mate. I imagine it must be more difficult to gain weight when you're naturally slim built than it is to lose the lard when you're a fat fcuker like me, so well done. That's right that's the combined weight. A 'typical' 460 split would be something like 160/100/200 although it can vary. I'm on my way with the other 2 but the squat holds me back, working on it though.

None of it comes easy as I'm sure you know. 160/100/200 is some heavy going especially if thats to qualify. What are your current PB's in those lifts then? It might be helpful to list them on your first post and then update when new ones are acquired. It'll make it nice and easy for people looking in to track your progress.

I'll certainly be logging weights but I think it will be a while before I see any PB's if I'm to stay at this weight.

Good luck with search for strength, mate. The total you are looking for is 460kg, but which powerlifting federation is that?

For me it will be either BAWLA or GBPF Bill. I've not gone as far as that yet but obviously I'll need to at some point soon.

Sorry i was looking at the link on OGs mail, the English Powerlifting fed, saw that the totals seemed a bit higher than you said. It was only after i posted that i went back and realised i was looking at the equipped section, while you were talking unequipped. Whoops! For me (at 95ish kg) the total would be 520kg, which would be bench 130kg, squat 180kg, deadlift 210kg. Not impossible but still well beyond my current 115/150/200

Ak_88 Good luck 40+ Where are your dead/bench at in comparison to your squat? Cheers AK I would say my dead and bench are ok compared to my squat, probably because my squat is sh1te I benched 107.5 tonight and I could probably dead 170 but I really need improve on both of these.

I may look into equipped at some point down the line, see how we go.

Diet can be aloud to slip once in a while. We both know that the one thing that will hamper your progress the most is the booze but you have battered that aswell. I hope to have made the same strides as you in a years time mate

If you can keep off the beer mate you'll find the other things in your life start to fall into place. If you look at your before pics from the shape up I'd say you were about where I was this time last year, if I can do it anyone can.

Very nice to see you today 40+, still can't believe you need all that hair, hope all goes well in your training and if ever you have any questions - ask away
