Another fact about the Statue of Liberty. Although it was made in france (and ran into bad dificulties getting it finished due t omoney), the People of new york, had to come up with the money for the base for it to sit on, when the Gov of New York refused to give any money towards it, the (I think the paper is right), New York Times, which barly had a circulation, started a campaighn to raise the money for it, and in doing so it became at the time one of the biggest papers of its time.

I love History, especially with old structures like this. I've been to the Statue Of Liberty, not the Eiffel, they have all those amazing old photos of people working on it in there. Alot of men died making it, the pictures show men literally on a board with bits of rope hanging on the outside of it !!! Brave guys.

Speaking of impressive structures... Burj Dubai 818 m (2,684 ft) Below is a comparison between different buildings/structures. The tallest one on the left is a building currently being made in Dubai.

I thought the Burj was going to be the tallest building, not sure there was another being built - which would mean the above comparison pic might not quite be right in scale?

yungdest81 I'd like to visit all them, kinda like notches on the bedpost ;) A much more sad version :( In the last two years ive been on the top of many tall buildings. Ive come to the conclusion that most cities from that height look very very similar lol! My favorite is the view of hong kong from victorias peak. the below photo does not do it justice

john_cappa Damn that is going to be massive! Is there any progress pics of it so far? Not that I know of, from what I understand they are still working on foundations and making sure the site is capable of supporting such a building.

It is currently the tallest building, but they are building one bigger and plans for even bigger than that eventually!

Mobster Pah. Croydon my bum. That's Crystal Palace. In fact those are the steps bottom right to any worlds fair type event building (the Crystal Palace burning down many years ago). Yes that's Crystal Palace which, depending on how pedantic you want to be, is an area in the borough of either Croydon, Bromley, Lambeth, Southward or Lewisham. So it might or might not be Croydon - I could be a few inches out - sorry.

Lambeth's miles away. Crystal Palace is the area and the rest are boroughs. The other, slightly shorter, mast is a little up the road and I think just inside the borough of Croydon.

Mobster Crystal Palace is the area and the rest are boroughs. Has Crystal Palace declared itself an independent republic? Is it not in a borough anymore? Anyway the TV mast in the picture is the Croydon Mast, the Crystal Palace mast, the one you're thinking of is the other end of Crystal Palace Parade - the other side of the park.

I had never even heard of that Tuc, that is really quite something - the ballroom looked pretty spectacular also.
