Yeah bit of a nightmare today! And no im not a sadist just hit with bad luck, if you look at the FTSE today you'll see from 9:30 - 2:30 there was a massive slide, then it stopped... I got involved after 2:30 As said a lesson learned, i would of been better pulling it out and whacking it straight on to Apple on a long term trade!

Thoughts on the current BP situation from a (long term holder) shareholder, or potential shareholders perspective?

The spill itself isn't the biggest problem for them, I think that will be cleared with far less damage than the news implies. The risk is a US govt going after them for political reasons. The dems facing an election in Nov which currently will wipe them out. A nice big oil company bad guy will be very tempting as a scapegoat and distraction. It will also delay or possibly kill the energy bill that was going to open up drilling areas.
A fully paid up spokesperson for Big Oil and board member for the illuminati, posting from a tropical tax haven. Caution: Posts may not have any moral content.

Had a chappy on the phone wanting to buy £500k worth of BP for a long term punt. As wheels said if the govt goes after them will cause a problem with the energy bill etc.

This reminds me, I'm going to go buy a share in Apple - since my first mention here 2 weeks ago, shares are already up about 5%....

Was looking at BP as a long term hold, as on face value it looks cheap (?), bu the long term damage to the company is what concerns me. Will it still be damaging to them after 5 years has passed, or do you think it is more short term?

Been looking at BP recently also as a long term investment. Also looking at increasing my holdings of Aviva, again with a long term view.
