Cheers Big Tom.

I will aim for Deadlifts eventually, and bent over rows, but if I can explain:

In my last job (up until 5 wks ago) I was lifting 5metre lengths of steel all day long - on my own! I did this job for two years, not always on my own but towards the end more often than not. I had to lift them, turn anticlockwise, walk up between 4 and 10 metres, and lift into a set of jaws that were level with my lower chest. I could only turn one way as the computer was the other side. This took its toll, and what was worse, all this steel had to be lifted from a pallet on the floor - this is how I did my back in the first place! Not bending my knees properly on occasions - cutting corners to get the job done quicker!

So for this reason I have to be very careful.

Thank you very much indeed Toxic Toffee Sir, very kind of you.

From previous posts you have made on the subject of Fitness First, I take it you work there? So therefore, are there most days?

Just have mate, but to be perfectly honest, I am not really qualified to comment too much at this stage, best leave that to those who know better.

RE: The Old Git's Journal! - 27 May 2006 22:29
I dare not do deads at the moment mate to be honest.

But i will, just need to feel confident. Start very light and build up, I suppose.

Yeah, sh*t day today. Back went ok, but triceps, made me feel very weak. training with a young bloke with arms like my thighs did'nt help - i felt very inferior! Did'nt spot for me when I needed it, and - i don't know, just me being a wuss!

Difficult though as he is 6' 3" and I'm 5' 6" and him insisting on doing things his way - standing.

Well, from now on I'm training on my own!

Totally pi$$ed off, wedding anniversary today, missus wanted to go out for a meal, I could'nt be ar$ed. Ordered an Indian. Huge plateful, followed by 4x bags crisps, 3x stella's, bot of wine. And now just had a jelly.

Ah well, CV is beckoning me i think!

RE: The Old Git's Journal! - 27 May 2006 22:42
I started doing deads with an Oly Bar, very very slowly built up as well. I'm the only person in my gym that does deads so I still felt tough, says a lot about the gym I'm currently going to however

Luuuurvly cheat day mate, almost as good as mine To be honest I had a cheat day right before my PB on deadlift so I'm sure there's something in stuffing your face full of calories

I used to train with a guy much bigger then me as well. I ended up pushing myself too hard as my ego got the better of me and I almost had a nervous breakdown that's how badly I overtrained. Everybody tells you not to worry about what the other guy is doing however putting that into practice is so much harder

Its really funny actually, this is first time I've wallowed in food as i have this evening for a long time, but i feel big, i feel pumped up, my legs feel like there bulging well, my back feels wide - crikey, i even feel as though i could give the missus one, jeez!

lol Seriously, a strange feeling, coincidence - surely?

RE: The Old Git's Journal! - 28 May 2006 11:45
Right then you lot - just to prove I do listen and take notice of your advice, I have a few weights in the garage, so this morning I thought I'd test out my back a little! I thought I'm gonna try some DEADLIFTS!!!

I gathered all the free weights I could muster, and after weighing the bar, assembled it, and it totalled a massive ..........

46kilos.

Ok, you can stop laughing now.

I SAID YO.... ok

10x reps at this very impressive 46k ensued with no mishap, the back was fine.

So, yes I know it was a pathetic weight, but I will do this 2 or 3 times a week on a CV day seperate from my routine for say, a few weeks, if the back holds out I'll start to do deadlifts in the gym, ok!
