I thought Aus did well actually, if Kewell and Viduka had done something with their chances??? Ok, all it was that I was referring to boiled down to a lovers tiff between to good so-called best mates. But I'll have to set the scene. On my trip to France (stop yawning at the back) I drove down to Southampton, picking up a friend (Wol) on the way. We then transferred our fishing gear to a Merc Vito van along with the driver's: Big Rik. Now although Big Rik was taking my gear over, I was actually going myself in Big Stu's Toyota Hi Lux, along with Blam. Big Stu drove to Southampton from East Grinstead. On we went to Portsmouth to get the ferry. Big Rik and Big Stu are, yes you got it, BIG friends! But they are both leaders and not folowers if you see what I mean - each has to be right! All the time! They fire up and fire off at the touch of a button. Coming back, it would have been easier if I had gone in the van, then Big Stu could have driven straight home from the ferry, but I was on his ticket and so going though customs meant I had to be in his. The plan then was to drive through customs in Portsmouth, meet up, and I then transfer to Big Rik's van, but Big stu takes a wrong turn and he's on the motorway towards home. He then tries phoning Big Rik, who in the meantime has been pulled by customs - not a happy chappy! Eventually they connect on the mobile, and all hell breaks loose each accusing the other, blah, blah blah (I said it was boring). It ends up with Big Stu dumping me at the Railway Station! I rings Big Rik to tell him of the situation, and I'm stuck there for 45 minutes, just standing there like a total lemon! I had one bar on my mobile and was threatening to die any minute. Big Rik turns up eventually, thankfully! Now this was bad enough, but it happened to coincide with Englands first game of the world cup, it was all over, but the area was crammed full of Supporters pi$$ed as you like - most happy, but some, as usual, hell bent on fighting! .............and where did it kick off - a foot in front of me! I was standing in front of one the doors to the station, but the staff locked the doors! I'm stuck there! Don't get me wrong, when I was younger, I might be a short arse, but I never ducked out of a ruck - but now??? I'm well past that! At least I stood my ground although I had to dodge a few poorly aimed shots from drunks, who somehow thought I might be involved! And had to push one or two away a couple of times. The bastards broke me giant bar of white toblerone! If I had have known that at the time?????? So, perhaps "nasty experience" was the wrong term to use - but it was quite frightening at the time! And could well have ended up differently!

Nice one Stef - I used to too - on the Nene mainly, but in syndicate now! * Right, my guts are still painfull this morning but improving all the time, I have pulled a sickie, and, all being well, will go to the gym this afternoon to do Legs and Triceps that I was'nt up to doing yesterday. Then I'm back to where I want to be, and can sort the routine out for where I want it next time out. Regards blood tests, easier than I thought - my missus is a care assistant in local hospital, she is going to have a word with a couple of the girls, and I might be able to get it done tomoz, and this will be a fast turn around with the result as well.

LEGS & TRICEPS: LEGS: Squats: 10x 20k 10x 60k 8x 80k 6x 90k 3x 105k (5k increase again) - ( 231lbs just 9lb off previous best from years ago) Leg Press: 10x 80k 10x 120k 10x 150k 8x 190k (20k increase) - ( 418lbs) Calf Raise: 10x 106k 10x 115k 8x 124k 8x 133k (9k increase) Leg Curl: 10x 63k 10x 63k 10x 63k TRICEPS: Close Grip Bench Press: 10x 30k 10x 35k 10x 40k Skullcrushers: 8x 30k 8x 30k 8x 30k Close-grip Pushdowns ( ^ this shape bar ) 8x 60k 8x65k 8x65k Dips from Bench: 3x 10 Bearing in mind I was still in a little bit of pain, I am really please I have been able to 'up' the weight again! In fact I am over the moon - especially as I haven't been squatting properly again for that long - I know it was only 105k for 3x, but I had a bit more, but didn't want to risk failing on the 4th. The PT was there again, and I always go to pot when he's around as I can see him in the mirror when I'm squatting! He's a good bloke and knows his stuff, but I just get paranoid. I started off with the first really focussed, then by the 3rd, I was aware of him again. Triceps went pretty well today too. I know the weights are nothing special, but its a benchmark to beat next week. Felt particularly good to finish with the Bench Dips.

Nice increases there mate, squats are going well! There's no way I could leg press that weight after the squatting, i'd did squats on Friday up to 85kg, then onto the leg press to a max of 160kg for 3 reps, legs were shot to pieces!!

It will come mate! I've only got short legs though mate, its easy to wedge myself in there. The first one's the hard one though

Deep rooted dissatisfaction with ones physical appearance is the best fuel a person can have to drive their quest...overwhelming apathy that one cannot change oneself is on a practicle level ignorant and on a personal level counterproductive in all areas of life. Oldgit what medical diagnosis from a practicioner have you been given that resistance training to overload will further hinder your condition. Are you gonna investigate why your possibly finding it difficult to acheive any gaining of muscle mass through hormonal tests....if your natty test is low then maybe some tribulus therapy might be of use....if i were in your shoes id be investigating.

Hi lads. Thanks for the comments and words of encouragement. For about 10 years I have suffered with a condition called Diverticular Disease. I have had it under some degree of control for a long time. For the past 8 months I had improved my diet and trained and it has been great - upart from the odd flare-up here and there! Which I can cope with. This past 7 days have been horrendous! First thing in the morning is extremely painful, and it eases through the day - so much so that I'm able to train, but then the morning comes again, and............. I had nailed the diet with help on here, and the training has been going well, but now, well....... I have an appointment at the docs again at 09:35 so we'll see what happens??? I started a new job a week last Monday, I did 4 days and Ive been off since! Not ideal! It is extremely frustrating! I want to work! I want to train! I want to turn the clock back a few weeks! I can't! I was feeling great, now this! Sorry for the negatives - I should'nt burden others. I am driven by my physical appearance - I look in the mirror in disgust! I want to change it and I WILL change it! I've not been told that training will worsen my condition at all, so its not that, its simply the morning pain I'm in. I have been in hospital for pain control years ago. There is an operation that can be performed, and was close to having it done then, but the pain receded with drip-fed antibiotics, but my GP dismisses it, and won't refer me. My brother has the same condition and one of the reasons my mother died was because of it. As I say, sorry for the negatives, I will get there in the end. Thanks for the advice etc.

Atleast your facing the barriers logically in order of importance now...from what your saying it seems the first step is get this condition sorted and if the nhs arent willing to help then i would consider a private consultation...the cost is high but its your health and you may not agree with me but its better to live in poverty with your health. This is a place to burden others..no one is top of their game all the time and our lifestyle is full of psycological highs and lows...good luck with it all old git and dont give up
