RE: The Return of the jedi - 08 October 2009 23:05 ( #2221 )
Powaaaaa lifting Thursday.

Felt all my good intentions and chutzpah drain away in the short walk frm car to changing rooms.
Luckily though, once we started warming up on squats it all came rushing back
...which is very unusual.

Squat
50-90-130 -working on absolutely buried for depth.
160 =PB (of sorts, no wraps not belt)
180 aargh all that work on depth gets forgotten and I go a bit high.
180 buried. PB

Bench
60 throwing it up to feel the powaaaa
80 chuck chuck chuck
100 boing
145 woaaaaahhhhh fkkkkkinellllllll heavy =major fail
130 paused on chest for 1 full breath =PB

Deadlift
50-90-130-180
190 PB (of sorts, no belt)
210 major fail

So a bit of a mixed bag, or so I thought at the time. Although as I'm writing it up now I feel it was more good than bad. Felt good on the squats, my flexibility has improved leaps and bounds; I can now do one of those unsupported squat onto your heels like a vietcong contemplating the Tet offensive type things. This has made me much more optimistic about making depth balanced and with less fuggering about, which in turn is quicker. So I just knew I was going to get the 180 but first attempt I just let a combo of things ruin it; not letting the wraps 'break' letting Ding call the depth when I knew it wasn't buried. That kind of thing. Glad I went back in and did it properly, trouble is I've only got a vid of the duff attempt. May have a bash 'no spotter' next week

Bench felt really strong right from the start mainly due to not making the same @rsehole of a job in terms of Monday's debacle. Just back to quite narrow grip straight down straight up (most of the time)a bit higher on the chest than true powerlifting style but it's what works for me. Having said that, the 145 felt fkkkin heavy, a bit worse than I'd expected. Given that, I think I did a good job of controlling it on the way down. Needed plenty of help on the return though. Bizarrely, still felt strong so gave 130 paused a go and surprised myself. Jackman put his fingers to the bar very briefly, he may have been slightly fooled by my idiosyncratic up a bit down a bit -fire approach to difficult benching or he may have just wanted to soak up some of the raw powaaaaa who knows. I do know (in my own mind) that it did not affect the lift so I am claiming it and I honestly don't usually if anyone's touched it.

Deadlifts I was less pleased with.
The 190 no belt felt good. The 210 did not. Not just because I didn't get it but more because I kinda quit the battle with it still on the floor. I suck at deads.
Need to try and get multiples at 200 before trying 200+ again.

I thought I was finally rid of it this morning but it has slowly crept back through the day.

That pitcher took me a while
As for the no PB's well bogger that, although I fear bench will be the one where another year might be in order.

Here is a stillframe from the high 180 vid which on balance doesn't look that bad

I mean not great just not hideous. The buried one was a lot lower though.
Honest.

RE: The Return of the jedi - 09 October 2009 22:50 ( #2226 )
^Hmmm well a couple of weeks ago, when we started thinking parallel was good enough, I probably would've been happy with it. But now the deep desire for deep, deep, depth has surfaced again and it's demands must be met.
Apologies if I am gabbling here, let me explain;

I hurt myself today,
to see if I still feel...
Well not so much to see if I still feel so much as to see if I could satisfy my dreams of 12/10/8 on 140. That answer to which was a big fat NOoooooo.
But not for want of trying.
Worked up to 160 with no belt or wraps then back down to 140 with skinny belt and wraps so it would 'feel light'. Which it didn't. Anyway dig, dig, dig went the digging machine, concentrating on getting them really low; first 8 no spotter, then another 2 with a tiny nudge and big old veins standing out on my temples, so close to being done but couldn't take a pause as the bar felt like it was slipping down my back so had to rack it. Fkk, I wanted 12. Goddam bar just lying there on the rack, goading me. I'm not having that. Fkk it I'm going back in. Yeah baby, I'm back with my jelly legs and puce face to dominate you biatch ..bar ..biatch errrrr biartch. Fkk this is not going well call on the reserves. What reserves? Sh!t forgot to order the goddam reserve legs. Improvise. What with? I dunno ...lower back? Fkk hurts but kinda works ...get it done.
140kg x12-with a bit of spottery pokery.
Pleased but also, ever so slightly ruined.
Dammit 12/10/8 looking un. likely.
My go again already? Excellent.
How the fkk I managed another 6 I don't really know. I do know I can't do any more. I'll lie here for a bit you lads press on. Fkk they're doing Smith squat 21's. Fkk and seem to be indicating it is me first. Fkk.
70kg x 21
I must've gone into some kind of delirious state as I even tried another set -abandonded.
Blood not reaching head very much at this point, feeling very ashen
...except for the times I was feeling distinctly green.
Take, take me home.
Fkk stairs. Fkk locker. Fkk pound coin on floor. Fkk fkking foot caught in fkking trousers. Fkk trying to drive. Fkk still sweating. Fkk fkk.

Could've done with a bit more volume

about as long as it took me to realise what you were talking about, re "pitcher".
probably not as long.
I had images of large jugs of lemonade.

yes, I said "large jugs".

Cheers chaps, the truth is, just like Neo visiting the Oracle, I wasn't ready.
Unlike Neo, I thought I was ready. I don't know why I thought I could do 12/10/8 on 140 but I did. I was wrong.
It was too heavy.
I wasn't ready.
I gave everything I've got in the battle though, I know I did that.
I'm not sure it was the best leg workout ever devised by man but I am fairly confident it will have done something. I wasn't joking about the lack of volume, ideally it should have been  three decent sets and then made a better fist of the 21's maybe some front squats and leg ext. as pre-exhaust. But all of that can wait for another time. This was very much another face the Balrog moment and, as before, I found some "...you. shall. not. pass." The comparison is quite apt really as, very much like Gandalf v's the Balrog, it was difficult to declare a clear winner between jedi v's 140kg.

Cheers mate although not looking quite so good at present, on a bit of a bulk and can't even do any cardio thanks to the lingering cold. Maybe this slight dissatisfaction with my appearance is behind last night's, first ever
...bodybuilding nightmare

I don't mean in the gym, I've had plenty of those. I mean tortured in my sleep waking to find myself covered in sweat and suffering post-traumatic stress disorder. The gist of it was, I was persuaded against my better judgment to do a show. At said show, I confidently put into place my plans to simplify bodybuilding.
1. No excessive dieting
2. No tan
3. No interesting posing routines
Success?
I was not.

Weirdly this was not the end of the story.
I went back to sleep for further humiliation when in the evening posing
...I wore my t-shirt.

That wasn't even the end of it.
I seem to have launched my own federation where people posed on stage with weights and their physique and form were both judged.
This was also not a roaring success.

The moral of the story?
Do not expect to see me at a bodybuilding show

Bench Tri's Calves

Flat Bench
60-100-
120 x 8 see below
120 x 6
120 x 5
100 x 7 + 2 spotted

Incline Smith
80kg x 8
80kg x 7 +1spotted
80kg x 6 +2spotted

Cable Flies
Not sure what pin no. but they were done pulling up and forward.
12/12/10

No dips

Skull Crusher/Close Grip
35kg x 8 each
40kg x 8 each
40kg x 8each with some spottery pokery

V-Bar Pushdown
36kg x 12/10/8

Single Arm Pulldown
pin4 x 12/10/8 -had to cheat a couple

Not sure about that session.
Definitely felt my chest had done more work last week but on the other hand had better tricep work this week. Don't know how much of my 120's I was getting as Ding likes to keep his fingers on the bar. He doesn't think he's helping but
1. it stabilises the bar
2. he is fkkin massive so his version of nothing could actually be quite a lot.
I am going to have to decline this assistance next week so think of me in your prayers.

Thought I was done but Mr. Jackman is making it his life's work to provide me with calves.
This seems mostly to involve working up in weights on the smith press until it feels as though the world is on my shoulders literally as opposed to the more usual metaphorical encumbency. Then there are sets of heels turned out on the leg press.

My neck/trap pull thing has tightened up overnight.
I have no idea what might've caused it in last night's session. On the other hand it didn't come on until after the session so a subconscious desire to avoid tonight's deadlifts can't be ruled out.

I liked doing smith machine calf raises and find that not much weight was needed to work them.
