It might sound mad but what's your form like on the 16?

Not at all, that's a good question actually.
If you refer back to the squat vids a couple of pages ago then by the time we get to the lighter weight for reps portion then the legs are fried and I am not going to claim that all the reps were buried for depth like the first vid (the fresh 140) they are much more like the last vid, the struggling 180. Around about parallel in other words

Nice session mate.  No wonder you shuffled to the car

I'm learning not to count my chickens too early.
I seem to get a delayed reaction and feel worse quite a few minutes after the effort has stopped. At least if I ever feel like I am going to vom immediately after the squats then I might have a couple of minutes to find a bucket. Every cloud...

Yeah I think thats the way of it really, I learned a lot watching your vid, mostly that I need to keep in mind my depth whist juggling the weight, keeping my back straight, head up, tensing my abs, etc,etc.... Who say's men can't multi task

But even with my new found knowledge, I still mess up the odd rep!

I have definitely abandonded any sense of cutting that's for sure, as the weight was just peeling off and I was starting to look scrawny. I am a bit limited for empty calories though (with the coeliac) so the diet is still fairly clean. I am now also having 2 protein shakes a day for the first time ever and I'm hoping to see some sort of benefit from that.
I am probably in calorie surplus but not by much
I probably don't eat as much as I think I do.
          I probably don't eat enough......moment of clarity/revelation

Started the new Wednesday is a light day regime last night working on some weak parts so calves got blast with plenty of sets on the standing machine. We are currently employing a technique of doing about 8reps on half your max weight then drop to that max weight to try and squeeze 5 or so out and then do 4 drops of 5 up the stack. It is fairly brutal.

Also did some biceps and am regaining some lost strength there.

Then some gymnastic abs for first time in a while.
I am getting closer to doing the full lever but its not there yet. I can hold it (briefly) with bent arms now but I reckon it is still a few weeks away. Also did some flags and some wipers which seemed fairly easy compared to the lever. Next it was onto the floor and using hex dumbbells for some half-levers

Which I did my best to turn into raised or V-sits like this

although maybe not quite that high yet.
Then I did the half lever but tucking it back so knees to chest and out again for 3 sets of 5, like bench tucks but even harder. Abs mullered.

Woke up with a banging headache and signs of another cold or the same cold flaring up again.
            Fkkin ridiculous. Seriously.

Do you eat much in the way of anti-oxidants mate? I eat a load of blueberries everyday, you can get a large tub of them frozen in asda for £2.

Couldn't you snack on things like tub's of Quark during the day for extra calories.

I eat a fair bit of fresh fruit and veg and drink cranberry so I don't think it's that.
I love quark but tend to forget to buy it.

                Tonight's powerlifting.

                Squat.
Didn't feel too bad going in, definitely a lot fresher than last week but once again the Tuesday reps were present in my legs and felt very drained and stale. Everything felt heavy.
                60 x plenty
                100 x 3
                130 x 3
                150 x 1
160 x 3 plus absolute face bursting grinder of a 4th with added spotting from Mr. Jackman
                Done.
I'm getting a bit disappointed with my squat, think I am just lacking a bit of focus and edge. That said I am putting away plenty of reps at the minute so will stick with that for a few weeks. Jackman has his sights set on a maximum reps for bodyweight back squat on Tuesday so it seems doubtful I will be squatting next Thursday anyway

                Bench
Getting a bit frustrated with this as well.
Jackman is tiptoe-ing towards 150 again after some post Xmas weakness and I am still a way short of 140 form. I feel as though some strength is in the vicinity but my dicky shoulder (previously my good shoulder) is holding progress back. Guess I should be thankful I can still do something despite injury. I suppose.
                60-100-120-130
140 x 2 controlling the negative and taking a hefty spot for the push
                140 negative plus spot again.
The 140's felt hella heavy need to start putting in some of those negatives just so the weight doesn't scare me off. Would be a lot easier to make the push with 2shoulders working.

                Deadlift
This is now highlighted as the major effort day on deads after splitting back into deads for lower and a seperate day for upper back/rows etc.
                60 x 10
                100 x 10
                140 x 2
                160
                180
                200 -felt fairly good
210 -first time over 200 this year

May have been a bit more in the tank but probably not the 220 I'm gunning for so kept the powder dry for another day and dropped back for reps.
                140 x 15 brutal
                140 x 10

                Jackman pounded out 170 x 15 less than a week after a 180 x 12.
                Awesome to watch.

                    It might've looked pretty easy....
There was a certain amount of

type visual disturbance so I think I was working a bit harder than it might look.

I know what you mean about still starting the lift by having to fetch the bar to where it should be starting from in the first place. I blame the baggy troozers as I can't see my feet

Well done of the deadlift mate. Was there a slight lack of leg drive there? Are the squats to blame for this?

It's so funny how youngsters with hair think everyone who is a baldy slaphead must all be somehow related.
I don't think Mr. Vest will be too happy about the 'younger' part of your conclusion.

As for the lack of leg drive.
                        Hmmm, maybe.
I have a lack of legs in general I am a bit backy with my deadlifts, I think it is a bit of a trade off of the two factors on deads though. The more legs you try and get in, the lower you will be addressing the bar I reckon, which means your back will tend to be more upright. I prefer this kind of setup (Rippetoe) where your back is fairly flat, shoulderblades over the bar.

As daKensta points out I am not really nailing that setup either as the bar is moving in towards me (rather than up as the lift starts). I guess another inch or two nearer the bar might put that right and hopefully see me making a decent stab at 220.

I was referring to your muscular bodies, obviously.

I can't really tell in that video because of the trousers, but do you find the bar scrapes your shins on the way up?

My DL form used to vary each week until I tried doubly hard to get some consistancy last summer. I'm sure Rippetoe commented that the bar should pretty much be in contact with the body on the ascent. Sorry if I've not explained that correctly.

But either way my shins would be black and blue the next time.

I've been smashin my shins to smithereeeens mate.
I even wear neoprene sleeves to try and prvent the worst of the damage (not that it works) so yes I definitely try and keep it close. I think part of my problem is that I have hypermobile joints so when my knees are locked out my legs are a bit ( concave which means my shins can be a bit further away from the bar than they appear. I find Rippetoe's advice to set the bar over the middle of the foot a bit more reliable. Where he doesn't mean the middle of the bit you can see but the middle of the whole thing which is about where you'd lace your shoes.

Thought I would traul the forum during this quiet time at work and see who elses journal I can lend abuse to, and whose better I though.....

Interested in your stats, dude, as we aren't too dissimilar IMHO. You have the edge in leanness I would say by your photos a few pages back (looking good BTW).
