Shoulders

Front raises
12.5kg x 10
12.5kg x 8
15kg x 8

lateral raises
12.5kg x 8
15kg x 8
15kg x 8

Rear Delt shrug
60lb x 8 (3 sets)

Upright Row
50kg x 8 (3 sets)

No heavy bench, no seated dumbbells due to gym being packed

Smith Press
40kg behind head x 8 (3 sets)
40kg in front x 10 50kg x 8 62.5kg x 5

15min cycle
10min treadmill

How inconsiderate of people to turn up and thereby ruin my session. Getting more comfortable with the 15kg for isolations and will have a bash at 70kg shoulder press in the next couple of weeks.

Friday legs;

No squats

No leg press

So basically just some leg extensions and ham curls with seated calf work to try and protect my back. It feels better than at the start of last week but I am still not a fully perpendicular homo sapiens
...probably still stuck at homo erectus.

Strength is looking good Jedi - the force is with you my son

I HATE packed gyms - the reason why I train at home!

BTW WTF is an 18 hour girdle???? Sounds interesting!

Hi Chris, not quite breaking new ground re the strength but I am hoping I might be in the not too distant future if I manage to stay fit and healthy ...I use the terms fit and healthy very loosely there of course.

I wouldn't want any more people than that in the gym to be honest. I like the idea of training at home but also realise that I need to get out more. For example...

You don't remember the ads for the 18 hour girdle?
Absolute classic.
Various ladies featured in a similar scenario such that were out on a date, off on their holidays and looking very svelte and classy when horror of horrors they would suddenly clutch themselves in panic and cry
"I've forgotten my 18 hour girdle....." before suddenly realising "...oh wait. I've got it on!"
They were out around about the same time as the Playtex cross your heart bra

I would just like to stress, once again, that I do not wear a girdle
....it is a lumbar support.

Last night's bench
Training in a 3 with fast turn round no waiting.

Flat Bench
60kg x 12 80kg x 10 100kg x 8 100kg x 6 100kg x 5 ..dropset60kg x 8

Incline Bench (not smith)
60kg x 8 80kg x 8 90kg x 5

Flat Dumbbells
Back still not up to it

Pec Deck Superset with Cable X-over
x 8 (3 sets)

Very pleased with the pressing efforts but....

Skull Crusher/ Close Grip Superset
35kg x 8 each (uh-oh my arms are burning)
40kg x 8 skulls x 7 close grips (unheard of for me not to press out the full 8)
35kg x 8 skulls (barely) x 5 close grip (absolute shocker...hangs head in embarassment)

+ V pushdowns/ Close pushdowns/
+Rope pulldowns and extension superset

Was really pleased with the pressing half of the workout but found that the quick turn around had just shredded my stamina for the triceps work. I wasn't the only one not to make the full sets of 8 on the close grip but was still a bit shocked as that is usually pretty solid. All in all a good workout. 3 men in a back workout tonight.

Nice solid session mate

I'm not convinced.
I was pleased with the pressing and think I may reach my goal of reps on 120kg sooner rather than later but I'm still in a slight panic about the failure on the skullcrusher/close-grip. I never fail on that. Am all of a dither thinking I will be the same on curls tonight.

My new gloves just turned up.
They are crap.

I like the integral leather wrist-straps and that's about it.
Quality of fit rubbish
Quality of finish rubbish
Quality of leather rubbish
Quality of padding rubbish

...other than that they are great

Looks like I will be following plan-B which is to chop the straps off and stick them to some proper thin leather gloves of the psycho-killer variety.

benchwise, do you reckon you could manage to bounce out another couple of reps at 100 and finally lay the stinking corpse of the 100x10 challenge to rest?

*sorry mate you'll have to shelve plans for the killing spree until they restock.

As for the bench
Aaaarghh, Grrrrr, Hurrrumph etc etc
I felt on Monday as though it really couldn't be far off but on the other hand I got to 9 last time and still didn't make it to the 10 My plan is to only tell myself I am going for 8 and, in fact, only do 8 ...unless I hit the eighth with plenty of steam behind me and it goes up as quick as the previous 7, at which point I may launch a surprise flanking attack on the fortress 10.

3 man back workout (I've already crippled 2 of us the third can't be far off)

Wide Grip Chins
15/9/8 bit more like it

Lat Pulldown
pin11 x 10 (3 sets)

Close Grip Pulldown
pin11 x 10
pin12 x 8
pin11 x 10

Wide Grip Row
pin11 x 10
pin8 x 8
pin11 x 10

+some standing straight arm pulldowns supersetted with light behind neck pulldowns

Oly Bar Curls
20kg x 15/ 30kg x 12/ 40kg x 8/ 45kg x 6

Close Grip Cable Curl
pin12 x 10
pin13 x 8
pin14 x 5 ...dropset, drop 2plates for 2more reps all the way up the stack

90deg Preacher Bench
20kg x 10 (3 sets including some spottage)

45deg Preacher bench
20kg x 10 jedi: "that's too light"
30kg x 6 +hernia jedi "lets put 20kg back on"
20kg x 10

Top pulley cable curls to finish.

Good workout but no.3 still isn't walking in a crippled crouch so must try harder.

Found cardio pretty miserable work last night.

Run 2mile with pack (below average, slight shin pain)
Cycle 15min
Row 15min (no heroics just marking it out)
Cycle 10 min
Run 10min on treadmill

Somewhat cr@ppy night's sleep to follow, terrific.

Shoulders

Front raises
12.5kg x 10
12.5kg x 8
15kg x 8

lateral raises
12.5kg x 8
15kg x 8
15kg x 8

Rear Delt shrug
60lb x 8 (3 sets)

Upright Row
40kg x 8 (3 sets)

Wide Grip Row (bit like a hanging clean)
50kg x 8 (3 sets)

Behind Back Cable Laterals
pin3 x 8 (3 sets)

Smith Press
40kg behind head x 10 (3 sets)
55kg in front x 8 70kg x 5 (including a touch or two from spotter) 40kg x 10

15min cycle

Very pleased to get the reps on the 70kg press but also really liked the behind the back laterals they will definitely be staying.
Written down that looks like a lot (too much) work on shoulders but we will see. I treat some of the isolation raises as a bit of a warm-up for pressing to be honest.

15ft of Hoff?
That's probably a bit too much for anyone
...except the Hoff himself, who would probably think it could be just a tad bigger.

Have just been to the Hostiple where some rather nice nurses insisted I needed to take my shirt off so that they could examine my neck
Seems as though there is no sign of grapefruit sized brain tumours and more likely that I have some sort of trapped nerve or disc problem. Which is what I said in the first place. Meanwhile, thank-you very much, here is the door, if I want to do anything about said trapped nerve looks as though I will be organising it for myself. Not to mention paying.

Military press hurt my back even before it was a bad back so i might have to put that on the to do list.

Meanwhile back has recovered enough to do some legs;

Squat
60kg x 15 100kg x 10 100kg x 10

Leg Press
150kg x 20 190kg x 15 210 x 10

Leg Ext.
pin5 x 10
pin6 x 8
pin7 x 8

Ham Curls
35kg x 10
40kg x 8
45kg x 8
35kg x 8

Some seated calf raises to finish

Then, got talked into doing a brief heavy bench sesh as the non-crippled training partner is lagging a bit
60kg x 3
80kg x 3
100kg x 3
120kg x 2

So pleased with that, I thought it was a couple of weeks away.

I think sight of my recent progress on bench has provoked a bit of curiosity and the others are keen to see what I am doing.

I can see how a group thing could be motivational, I usually train with my trainer (or Pete, as he insists on being called!) four days of the week, for the rest I am alone, which I find quite nice for a change!

Also allows me to sing along REALLY LOUD to my iPod!

Can the good bench form be linked to anything other than pushing really hard? I find the bench press awfull and cannot seem to progress in this area at all!

How can anyone not love the bench press?
You get a nice lie down for a start.

Bar comes down, bar goes up and repeat...simple.
You haven't been doing side to side have you?

daKensta
I think I am still in some kind of shock that I dared to take the 120kg down for a second rep.
I might have traumatised myself
I would want to repeat the double before I dream of trying for a triple, meanwhile I shall now kid myself that 120 is not my 'max'.

Last night's bench
With the 3 must-get-tears
Ab Warm-up
Rope Crunches 30 x facing in + 20 x facing out
jedi: "Isn't that just the same thing facing in a different direction?"
Tries it, finds bottom half of abs in burning sensation, feels less clever.

Flat Bench
60kg x 12 80kg x 10 100kg x 8 100kg x 6 100kg x 5 ..dropset60kg x 8 (damn!! exactly same as last week)

Incline Bench on Smith
60kg x 8 80kg x 6 60kg x 7 (Blast it, why where they harder than on the non-smith?)

Pec Deck Superset with Cable X-over
x 8 (3 sets)

Skull Crusher/ Close Grip Superset
35kg x 8 each
40kg x 8 each (thank cod)
35kg x 8 each

+ V pushdowns/ Close pushdowns/
+Rope pulldowns and extension superset

No huge leaps forward there but was more comfortable on everything than last week hence no embarassing moments on the triceps. Slightly disappointed with the incline on smith. I guess it is 80kg plus whatever the smith bar weighs but still, could've been better.
