By 'paused' reps, do you mean you paused at the bottome of each rep on the chest? That's good work if so.

CF: You had a heavy SATURDAY and still couldn't train on MONDAY - must have been some serious consumption.

Nice finish to the flat pressing I reckon.

It wasn't the way ahead at all, cos I'm not a big drinker at all! But my brother in law always ropes me in for the good old times!

4 bottles of red wine, 1 1/2 bottles of vodka and nearly a bottle of Perno, don't know if this is a lot by others standards but I'm pretty ashamed of myself for it as I can honestly say I don't drink at all normally, and I nearly missed Joshies feed time :(

Legs today and to be honest up until Sunday I was still suffering from the most crippling DOMS from last week's session that I thought I might have to pass. Felt a bit better yesterday so started making big plans.

Part of the big plan was to take some of the volume off the front squat and have a bash at 'something heavy'. This was ruined by the fact that when we got there the fat bar was on the rack the thin bar on the bench. Sulking like a girl who has just been told; "No you can't have a pony...and I really mean it this time." I was basically just biding my time at 60kg until the other bar became available. Course when it did I had forgotten how to get my grip on that one and was basically all over the shop. Plans for heavy abandoned lets just do the 100 like last week.
100kg - off to a decent start then at rep 3 it slid off my left delt I was so fkkkkkkin mad by this stage that I did another 7 reps on pure rage.
Great. Now I haven't gone heavy and I've d1cked up the reps. Brilliant.
Some logic is applied to the effect that if I can only get 3 reps before it starts fallin off I might as well go heavy.
                    120kg x 3
130kg=PB - oh fkkkkk when I said heavy I didn't think it would feel that fkkin heavy.
Why I would do that and then think of trying 140 is beyond me.
                    140kg PB
To be honest I had a bit of help unracking and it was probably only to parallel (I don't think it was high though) but my over-riding memory is of being scared sh1tless. It felt like a truly hideous amount of weight. Horrible. Don't try this at home etc etc
Interesting to look back on from a safe distance though
Also sulked my way through some back squats and leg exts. I think I was judging my performance against the pain of last week and thinking I wasn't trying hard.

I might need to get a grip before I do myself a mischief.

I remember the first time I was under 140 on the bench and thinking 'this is not nice, it feels like the world is on the bar'. I now know that the feeling is much, much worse on the front squat. Not sure if knowing what it feels like would make the second time less intimidating or indeed worse on the grounds that I know what to expect

I daresay I am going to have to get it filmed at some point though so I might as well resign myself to the notion. If I wasn't so busy trying to blank out the memory of feeling as though I had a close brush with death I might be a bit happier about making the lift.

feck me, 140 felt heavy enough for deadlifts let alone having it on my shoulders! top work!

                                    Good work Jez.
You're equalling my front squat PB now, this will not do...

The day after the night before I'm still quite frankly terrified by the memory of what that 140 felt like across the old clavicles
I reckon it might be best left to people with a bit more size around the chest and delts. On the other hand, I did a bit of reading round last night and I don't reckon I have the best grip going. I tend to cross my hands but hold them at my throat. I think you're supposed to go a lot wider if you cross your hands or if you're holding at your throat keep 'em together like praying.
Might be worth investigating, may even throw a thread into general to see if TONY has any tips. It's a shame it feels so horrendous as my legs feel fairly strong pushing in that position i.e. with my back more upright than a back squat and it feels great for quad recruitment; it is just so damn uncomfortable.

I use a xover grip but TBH I don't think my hands do much more than rest on top of the bar to keep things in place, there isn't an aweful lot of functional gripping happening IIRC

I don't necessarily mean grabbing the bar but it definitely needs some firm support.
I had aplay last night and think I am deffo doing the worst of two things. I either need to cross my arms over more or not cross them and hold them sort of praying mantis style at my throat. I think both options will keep my elbows higher. Of course its easy to be impressed with nothing on the bar, it might feel a lot different when there is 100+ there.

Calves on the sled, am making a conscious decision to go heavier and hold the contraction rather than doing mega reps. Did some heavy one-legs and then a few pump sets on the stack.

was looking forward to these after murdering 'em last week
...felt about 5kg heavier this time; that'll teach me.

again felt mega heavy, we've been doing 15's on this.
