Finished the trial of strength part2 and it could've gone better.
As per instructions I did 10 shoulder width chins and then hung on to bar* for as long as possible.
Time taken from start of chins.

1m 20s

It doesn't look much written down but it felt a whole lot longer in practice.
At least it didn't hurt as much as the dumbbell hold.

*course that is a very shiny bar in my gym. Very shiny indeed.
And thin.
Very shiny and thin.
And hard to grip.

Cheers mate I felt a bit disappointed with it at the time as I thought I had made a bit of a tactical error which I can't really go into at the minute but looking back I don't suppose I would have done much better no matter what tactics I'd employed. Like I said, at least it doesn't hurt as much as the dumbbell hold (which my left shoulder is still sore from) as there is less chance to 'fight', probably because it is a larger weight (huge in your case) testing the strength of smaller muscles. Once my fingers started to peel back there wasn't much I could do about it, no matter how much I told myself to hold on.

Enjoy

Quick update:

Tonight's chins went

12
10
09

all wide grip, very pleasing.

Worth noting that the extra time taken chinning saved me from being the focus of hilarity as the person doing low pulley rows (as I would have been) had the cable snap on him
but also
Couple the recoil sending him back off the bench at a rate of knots and the kkkkerrrash of the weights and I reckon he thought he'd been shot. Got up looking most perplexed.

Gym now officially re-rated from sh!thole to deathtrap.

Tonight's leg workout included a set of 9 at 270kg on the leg press all done right down to the springs.
Pleased with that but probably wont be in a rush to repeat it, as it wrecked my legs when combined with the high rep stuff I have been working on. Was quite chuffed with it though and it was easy enough to show that if I wanted to go heavy it would only take a few sessions to have me back at 310kg which was my best before the op. Having said that I was doing sets of hack squats with the stack before and am not only nowhere near that now, I can't even imagine how I was managing it then.

In other news, rogging speed has increased to such a level that my trainers are falling to bits in the slipstream.
That or the little Vietnamese boy that made 'em was daydreaming when he should have been applying glue.

Thanks Lisa

things going not too bad at the minute.

Last night included;

Chins
12
10
9 ....and three quarters

So close to 3 sets of double digits for the first time ever.
Major curl workout was also good, alternating between E-Z bar and Oly bar seems to be keeping my forearms pain free.
Biceps now measuring 16.5" which is nearly the same as before my op. but I am now more than a stone lighter.

Looking good for an assault on 115kg on Friday.

Warmed up with shoulder workout then on to bench fun.
Worked up through a few weights then did a nice easy double on 100kg.
Next up was one rep on 110kg which felt good and I just knew I was going to get the 115kg which I duly did.
Went up with effort but nice and smooth, certainly not a ragged max.

Next week may try for a triple on 110kg.

Decided to step up a bit on the bench for reps day.

Flat Bench:
60kg x 15
80kg x 12
90kg x 10
100kg x 06
80kg x 07 stripset 60kg x 05
80kg x 07 stripset 60kg x 05

pleased with the set on 100kg but the guy I was training with creamed me on the stripsets.
Kept starting off on the 60kg part thinking I would get 10 easy only to change my mind 2 reps later
Maybe I'll get used to them.

Next week may try for a triple on 110kg.

Having second thoughts about that.
Up until now I haven't really failed any attempts on Friday bench, which doesn't really mean much other than I think I've been getting the weights about right and progress has been made. So, revised plan for tonight is a triple on the 100kg, a double on the 110kg and then try the 115kg for 1 rep again. That way I'll have done more work before the single rep which should stand me in good stead for aiming at a triple on 110kg next week.
Will see how it goes anyway.

Should've stuck to the original plan.
Breezed through 3 on 100kg then did a double on 110kg which felt easy enough that I think I could've done 3 but racked the bar as I had already told myself 2 and I am a bit slow on the uptake
Anyway, then tried one rep on 115kg but the spotter gave me a nudge even though I don't think I needed it.
Will stick to simple plan next week and do a triple on 110kg.

All change again on the legs.

Leg Press:
150kg x 20
190kg x 20
230kg x 20
230kg x 20
190kg x 20

Hack Squat:
45kg x 15
50kg x 15
50kg x 15
50kg x 15

Leg Ext:
pin5 x 20
pin5 x 20
pin5 x 20
pin5 x 20

Ham Curls
25 x 20
25 x 20
25 x 20

Legs were mashed.
Had to do 10 mins on the bike just to be able to walk back to car.
Probably will be a one off going for quite that many reps.

Don't do squats anymore as they seem to disagree with my knees.
I had to have a ligament reattached years ago and this tends to pull my left knee inwards and forwards on the way down which starts to get very uncomfortable once you've got heavy on the bar.
Looks a bit like this;

Using machines it is easier to see it happening and try to stop it.
That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

My new trainers have arrived.
Gen-yoo-ine running shoes if you please, specially designed for bandy-legged individuals who couldn't stop a pig in a ditch.
Or, "over-pronators", as it says in the bumf.

No excuses now, will have to start stepping up a bit of mileage, hopefully pain free.

Was so eager to try the new trainers that I ran in and back despite the rain.
I can't say that the run was instantly pain free but it was much better.
The knees didn't trouble me at all and the shin pain was only minor rather than making me feel as though I wanted to stop after 200 yards. I felt much more comfortable and was definitely quicker. I'm already considering running on my rest days which is something I have had no inclination to do until now.
All in all I was well pleased.

Which was just as well considering my session was then sh!t

Was down on reps on both the 90kg and the 100kg but I am not too concerned. I think I overdid the Friday fun bench a bit and have also been pressing for shoulders on Friday which I haven't until recently. Will definitely stick to 1's and 2's for Fridays in future or may even scrap it for a while now that I know I can get decent reps on 100kg if I am not shagged out.

Session wasn't a total bust as did okay on tri's and looked pumped at the end which attracted some good comments about improved size and shape combined with more definition

It is at the minute as I am starting to feel a bit scrawny and inconsequential.
This may be a bit of body dismorphia but is also slightly due to the fact that I am scrawny and inconsequential

Will stick with the running though as BP:120/80 and resting pulse of 48bpm says I am getting a bit fitter if nothing else.

Thanks mate although I have definitely raised the white flag with regards to "big".
Just trying to get a bit leaner and maintain some decent muscle development and proportion which I think is a much more achievable goal for me given my slightly dodgy medical history.
I just looked back at a pic where I was 14st 2lb and I definitely looked bigger but I also definitely prefer the one at the top of the page. I guess I am just going to have to get used to how it feels with less 'insulation'.
