hello mate-
surprised to see isolations in your programme-
whats the thinking behind that one?
what about adding some weighted dips in there?

The isolations are cause he is only pretending to be powerlifter

I dont know why i need to even reply here when i have my own little parrot.....

Ive only recently started training for strength and as such im still interested in gaining size.

I did try dips once but it just didnt feel comfortable and i couldnt get used to it. Maybe its just me being a t1t.

Any reason for adding dips espacially and what would u swap them for Cal?

pec dec and cable flys superset
stack x 8 pec dec
70lb each arm flys x 8

2 hand push downs
3 x 8

1 hand push downs
3 x 8

rope pull downs
3 x 8

lol that lot mate.
i`d drop all the isolations in your programme and replace with compounds and add backdown sets for size.
compounds build isolations shape-doing both imo just slows progress down.(just my opinion tho)
when youre big enuff or satisfied with muscle mass add them back in IF necessary.

Cheers.
Interesting... I was thinking of compounds for strength and iso's for size.
So you reckon dropping the direct iso work 'may' help with strength but still make me grow?
If i dont do a fair amount of work i feel lazy when ive finished, ive got a manual job and used to being on the move.
So your saying just do bench, inc bench and dips for a chest and tris workout? I might need (mentally) to do something more i think.

If you feel you need to do more, you haven't hit the compounds hard enough :).

I just do bench, incline bench (on the smith for convenience) and pushdowns for some extra tricep work.

like dr.rick says - depends how much your putting into your exercises.
i only do 1 exercise per body part as a rule!
3 sets of weighted dips and a BW backdown set and i feel ive done enuff-
i beleive in stimulating the body not anihiliating it to the point where you cant move a limb lol
dont get me wrong tho by the time ive finished my workout i have zero energy left

For me there is something very mentally satisfying about isolating biceps and triceps.

if it works thats cool if not ya gotta think whats more important satisfaction or results?
i`m not saying dont work the muscle groups-tri`s for example i`m just saying that the bigger beast exercises like dips will do more than pushdowns.
if youve got 13" bi`s hitting them from all the angles aint the best plan-
concentrate on your squats deads and bench put a stone on your body and you`ll get an inch on your arms...
if ya get me...

Its funny you should say that.... Just got back now.

Back and Bis.

Lat pull downs
2 x 8 warm up.
3 x 8 heavy sets

Deads
60kg x 10
100kg x 8
140kg x 5
160kg x 5
170kg x 5
160kg x 5
160kg x 5

Straight back Cable rows
3 x 8 heavy

Close grip pull down (pivot style machine)
75kg ea, 3 x 8

Straight bar curl
35kg, 3 x 8

Hammer curls
17.5kg, 3 x 8

Last session of the week is shoulders on saturday and thats a full weeks plan.
Relatively happy with the deads although i do admitt to using straps after 140kg, just for the reps though. I couldnt hold 170 for 5 reps.

Are you using chalk and a mixed grip on deads?

RE: Chasing 500kg. With size.... - 31 January 2008 22:08
I actually keep meaning to get myself some chalk but dont know where to look so i havent got any. I use double over hand up to 100, then mixed grip until i use straps, for straps i use double over. This is probably not the right thing to do so suggestions welcome. I can lift the weight without straps but for reps it becomes slippy and the heaviest rep is hard work for 1.

The chalk will sort that out. If you're training in a public gym your best bet for easy transport is probably a climber's chalk ball. I used to get mine from Cotswold outdoor shops and similar places. Run you a couple of quid, last months.

You'll find you have no trouble hanging on once you're chalked up.

Impressive back session mate.

I did chest today and my first bench press of the session at 70kg the bar was slightly too far over to one side and Ive slightly pulled my left pec through benching off balance.
