The generic 'is this chicken safe?' thread

So I cooked some chicken breasts last night at around 10.30pm, ate what I could and left the rest in the oven while I popped out, but I didn't return til about 4.30am (don't ask), so they were left in the oven (which was off, obviously), uncovered for 6 hours. Would you?....

Do NOT eat it, although I'm sure you already will have! After 2 hours bacteria start increasing exponentially, and the fact that you left it in the oven is particularly bad as the higher the temperature the greater the risk. Also reheating it will make no difference, it won't kill the bacteria. You might get away with it of course but the risk isn't worth it. I once left some mince out for a similar time and decided to risk it. Lets just say that it ended up with me passing out in the bathroom whilst taking a dump, and waking up smeared in liberal helpings of **** amd vomit. It took me a month to retain my previous strength levels and weight.

No doubt theres some truth about the bacteria but it should of been fine to eat, I regulary leave meat/poultry cooked for the following days lunch go totally cold for a few hours before refrigerating with no issues. Have also eating food left out overnight the following day.

Personally I would eat it, reheating it to make sure it was very hot. However I do have a cast iron stomach

The chicken would of been fine remote...I have been a chef for 17 years and we would always roast meat and chicken and then leave them out on the side for a few hours....At the end of the day you should not put hot food into the fridge until it is cold anyway.....And i have had a few visits from health inspectors in the past and not one of them has marked me down for poor hygiene....

How can not reheating it kill the sort of low risk normal bacteria that would multiply on a un diseased cooked piece of chicken ??? Thats nonsense surely ??
