It's clever because it is underated and quite innovative, in my humble opinion. Compared to some of the over the top logo's of recent. The total branding across the board and the concept I believe has been executed extremely well. Plus using the mechanical aspect, which can be moved and used in any environment, again very clever. Kind of like the Channel 4 idents where they are just rolling the camera and the scenery lines up to give you the 4 logo.

Ultimately though, it already is instantly recognisable and that to me a sign of good design.

Why would this be a joke thread?

I think you are confusing the ident, which is the animated part against the final logo, which is a still - I don't think that is fussy at all. The basic strap is just white, hardly in your face.
