Thoughts on Carb Cycling 04 March 2010 01:21 (permalink)
Hi guys, Im currently tring out this method of carb cycling in order to try and a leaner look. I was advised by a local bodybuilder to give it a shot as my body doesnt respond well to high carbs and gives me a very bloated appearance. Basically I have for the last 9 days been keeping to a relatively low cab diet, averaging at 50 grams, high protein and high fat (healthy). For the 10 day, (today) I done a surge/refeed day consuming double my maintenance for the whole day, getting tonnes of carbs into me, lower protein intake and moderate fat intake. I then went to the gym after that refeed, buzzing with energy and get a gr8 workout. Need your thoughts on this method and advice maybe for other ideas/articles which relate to my plan. Thought Please, Cheers!

Sounds like a watered down/less extreme 'metabolic diet' type affair.

Have a read around about that, if you use the search function here ('metabolic diet' or 'anabolic diet') you'll get quite a bit of info.

It it works for you then fine but there are issues so I'd be interested to see your food choices.

My food choices are mostly eggs (omelletes) , minced beef, tuna, salmon, almonds, brazil nuts, peanut butter, salads. Then basically on surge days I simply eat whateva I want. Mostly good amount of low gi carbs, pasta/ rice/ potatoes/bread etc. So food choices are very good, just questioning the low carbs for 7/8 days a week! Ive been told as long as Im takin in sufficient amount of kcals for the 8 days then refeed. So I presume it is an effect way. Where abouts are them articles mate?

I researched a fair amount on carb cycling last year and a lot of people who have tried it have given it mixed reviews.
Many people seem to argue that shifting the weight after the 3 high carb days was a big problem. Though a lot of that will come down to what is eaten, what the exercise regime is like and also what the metabolism is like.

Let me know how it goes mate as I'd like to see how you get on. It's a method that I haven't ruled out using myself.

my diet is relatively low in carbs, i consume around 120 grams on the days i work out and about 80 grams on the non work out days. i find that if i increase them above this i feel very lethargic and have trouble keeping up the intensity whilst in the gym, been eating like this for nearly 3 years now and feel so much better for it.

it's simply awesome mate. I do the tried and tested 6 day cycle, 3 low, 3 moderate-high. In conjunction with cardio/heavy weights.

i've just started up again for my 12 week pre-contest diet

able to keep all my lean mass and lose a consistant 1-1.5lbs of fat every 6 day cycle

if you need specifics you can pm me.

Hey bud, would you mind sending the details over?

im pretty much the same as you oxon, I find i get very lethargic if i eat to many carbs. I recently started only eating carbs post work out and at breakfast on weights days and it seems to work well for me for energy and fatloss.
