@Val, very good post mate thanks for that.  I was just mad at only getting 4 reps out.  The feeling only lasted until I went to the flat DB press and when I got the first set of 8 with 35kg's I was fine and the rest of the session went well.

@Forddee, things are going well cheers mate.  Hope you are good too?

Had a quick word with Paul last night. My waist seems to be just exploding, and while I don't mind putting a bit on, it's starting to get a bit daft. Every other part of me is growing nicely, but the section of fat belly my navel is getting stupid. Wonder if this is anything to do with insulin response due to being a fatty?

DOMS are here big time in chest and even got some in bi's todays, so my dummy out antics yesterday in the gym weren't called for lol.

Can you hark back to a time when you were in the gym and you were on fire? not literally,

Excellent post by Valhalla but I kinda sorta can't help wanting to be literally on fire in the gym
...that would be so cool hot.
"I am the God of Hell-fire and I am here to feel the burn. Out of my way puny mortals."

What advice did you get re the expanding waistline?
Is this perception based on fact (i.e. tightening of troozers) or just your opinion?
I'd think this was always going to be a tricky time for you. You're just coming down off a PCT, you have recently made a sterling effort to get in shape for the hols but now any goals seem a bit distant. Would it help to focus on some short term goal such as achieving a certain weight or to increase your chest/bicep size by Xamount? I think a good training partner is invaluable at this point to help motivate you through the not-so-good work.
I will volunteer to race you to something if that might help.

Paul is having a hectic time in New York at the mo but is going to have a look at things over the weekend.

Sad to say it's Fact mate, my jeans that were slightly tight last week were litrally busting at the button last night.  Muffin tops ahoy!
As for goals, I just wanted to add some mass, although in the right places.  It's just a mine-field when I start eating more cals as the waist just gets bigger, but surely there's a way to get round this???

My training partner is a little hit and miss atm as a change to his shifts and I train EOD now.

Not sure what we could race to mate

Hi Rack,

I was under the impression your weight was stable?

Are carbs riding high? I look night and day when flitting between high carb and lower carb days. I could have a few large carb meals and smooth over badly and test the worksmanship of my work trousers button. However, I could up my fat intake and lower my CHO intake for a few days and my stomach would flatten out immensly and a few cheeky lines would come out.

for me it is nothing more than a physiological response to CHO intake.

You may be finding that all the extra food is bloating you out a little more than expected?

This is the puzzel mate, my weight is and has been bang on 15st 10lb since coming back from holiday.  The diet is static, carbs aren't that high and the only variation is 2 treats on a sunday.

Really not sure how or why my body is acting this way.  As said, every where else is growing nicely and I like how much bigger I'm looking but there has to be a way of doing this without having my waist grow at an expedential rate to everything else.

I was going through a similar thing Rack so I know how you're feeling. A bit of fat is ok, you can live with it because you still look big and have a V shape. It's when that fat gets out of hand and the V starts to change to a U, that when the self-conciousness comes in and starts pecking your head. I put up with this for a long time before deciding I would strip it all off once and for all, I am on my way now but still much to do. At the moment all is good but I know that the in-between phase will have me feeling very small and then we have the opposite problem. I will get through it though because of the reward at the end.

What I am trying to say here mate is that you have a goal and need to stick to it through the sh!t times, you have proved you can lose the fat, so bulk up, get some quality muscle added and then cut back for 3 months for a better physique than you have ever had. Enjoy your strength start to increase as you gain weight and focus your attention to your increasing shoulders, arms, chest & legs. It may be temporary that you gain fat around the mid section and if / when it subsides you will feel better.

Very good post there tuffy.  I can live with the U for a bit but surely there must me a way of stopping my waist growing/exploding at this  rate?  Should be speaking to Paul at the weekend so will see what he has to say.

Will be training back/rear delts and traps/calfs later on. And I'm determined not to whine about DL's

@Valhalla, waist is around 39-40in mate, so grown about 5in in 8 weeks.
I'll speak to Paul about the cardio, only thing I'm doing at the min is walking the dog.

5" in 8 weeks.

0.625 inch increase per week and no weight fluctuation. What strange work lurks here?

It has been said that a well hydrated man between 8 and 15% bodyfat, 1 inch gained or lost around the waist is equal to 3-5lbs of fat.

Hence why I'm stumped my friend?????  I'm still sure it's down to my insulin response but I'll have to do a lot more reading on this.  My waist was 35in when I went on holiday, came back a stone heavier and waist was 36.5in, now weight is stable and ~40in so I really have no idea??

Onto trainin;
(read in thick yorkshire accent) FOOOOOOKIN REIGHT SESSION!

Back/Rear delts and traps and calf’s:
Wide grip pull downs - Pg15 x8,8, P16x5 Pg12xfailure (up weight)
Bent over BB row - 80kgx10,10,10,10 (up reps)
Partial dead lifts - 120kgx8,8,8,8 (up 10kg)
Close grip pull downs – Pg13x10,10,10 (up weight and reps)

Bent over DB raise - 15kgx10,10,10,10 (up reps)
Reverse peck deck - 50kgx8,8,8, (up 5kg)
Seated DB shrugs - 35kgx10,10,10,10,10,10 (up weight and reps)

Standing Calf raise Pg15x20,20,20,20,20 (up weight)

Happy with today's session and managed to turn my frown upside down! Might drop weight on the Bent over raises though as form is a little jerky and is looking more like a bent over shrug.
DL's were a lot easier now I'm making sure my feet are well under the bar.

Re:Time To Grow - 04 October 2009 19:15
Shoulders/Triceps:
Seated smith press 75kgx8,8,7,6 (up weight 15kg)
Seated Side laterals 12.5kgx8,8,8,8 (up 2.5kg)
Seated DB press 25kgx8,8,8,4 (up weight 2.5kg)
Standing front raise with a straight bar 20kgx10,10,10 (same)

Straight bar cable press-down 75kgx10,10,10
Skull crushers 35kg (not inc bar)x8,8,8 (up weight)
Between bench dips BW+20kg DBx10,10,10 (up weight)

Yet again I've trained on the sabath, and for once the dummy stayed in. I actually got quite a nice shock. I thought last week I started with 70kg on the smith press, it was actually 60kg so added 15kg on it and only dropped a few reps on the last set. Weights were up and I'm well pleased with it. Elbow teaked a touch on the last set of db presses and I felt it more on the skulls so am going to drop the weight down on these again and go for form.

Cheers guys
Val, I'd love to have the mind set of IB and to just get HOOOOOOJ, but I'm not sure I could.

Wprk is absolutly mental at the min, and have hardly time to even get on forums (yes it's that bad!) had some urgent rails turn up for testing so had to miss calves today but they will be done later or added to next session.
Pleased again as more progress has been made and once again a very very ill feeling after leg pressing, which I kinda enjoy

Quads/Hams and calf’s:
Leg extensions - Pg17x15,15,15,15 (up 1pg)
Hack Squat - Pg15x10,9,8,8 (up 1pg)
Leg press - 175kg PScarb styleeeeee! (up 5kg)

Lying leg curl – Pg10x8,8,8,8 (up 1 pg)
Stiff leg deads - with DB – 32.5kgx8,8,8,8 (up 2.5kg)

now then mate.

Just been reading the past few pages, sounds like your head is all over the place when it comes to your weight and how you look.  How tall are you mate?

i have to say, i dont envy the struggle you have with the fat gain, BUT when you eventually find the sweetspot you should get good gains.

how often you drinking mate?  reason i ask is that i know you like a drink, and even if your having things with little cals ie voddy and diet coke, the alcohol affects all kinds of things, such as estrogen and test levels.

the tiredness is down to having low test, and being in PCT, pretty normal, just have to ride through it.  Recovery would be quicker if you can live without the drink though mate.  In fact progress all round would be better without the drink,  might not be a possibility for you though?

@Tuffy, Load the leg press up, do 10 reps wait 10 secs then do 10 reps and repeat until 6 sets are done mate.

@Dazc, hi mate I'm 5ft 9in, yeah the head is my worst enemy.  I like how my strength is coming along but look like sh1t. I'd love to be able to do what Aaron did and just keep on bulking and bulking but coming from being a very fat cnut I just can't do it.  The differnce from before I went on holiday to now is crazy, I don't even look like I train at the min and just look big.

I've probably had 3 nights on the beer since I got back from holiday.  Strange thing is I was t total for weeks before holiday but yes I do enjoy going out and getting "on it" as they say, but again it's going to have to be knocked on the head.  It's very possible mate, not just for progress reasons but financial too, £100 for a night of hazy memories of me doing stupid stuff isn't the best way to keep hold of my cash.

Re:Time To Grow - 06 October 2009 20:45
honestly mate, i think all you would gain by letting yourself get massive would be alot of extra fat to diet off.  Aaron, for all that he gained alot of fat, also has some very good genetics for piling on the muscle, so if your comparing yourself to him, its always going to mess with your head.  It does mine mate, given i have been bodybuilding and very strict with it for years and years, and still nowhere near the mass i want, despite being on for a long time.  Then someone comes along and blows what little mass i have out of the water bigtime in just a few months!

all you can do is work with what you have mate, trying to do anything else just fcuks your head up, trust me on that one!

put some cardio into training routine mate, 30 minutes straight away after weights at about 110-130bpm.  Will help keep you trim, and improve fitness, and as i found out mood as well!

ignore the weight, im half an inch shorter than you, and have never weighed more than just over 15 and a half.  im sat at just over 13 stone at the moment mate, and everyone, and i do mean everyone is commenting on how good i look.  Its taken me nearly ten years to finally be able to ignore the numbers on the scales, but i feel like im free from the shackles of fat that i was holding to keep the numbers high/move them up.

anyway, i better find some porn or something to post up, restore the manlyness of this post! haha

Sounds brutal, what % of your normal 10RM do you work at? I will give them a go on my next legs session, I currently do 3 sets of 15, so it'll be a bit of a shock I imagine.

Ps. Great post Dazc.

Re:Time To Grow - 07 October 2009 08:46
@Dazc, that post was fantastic mate and much appreciated it's really put things into perspective for me.  I've started to be more strict on cardio now and am doing between 30-45mins a day.  I can't do it after weights as I train at lunch time.
What I'd like to do is once and for all strip away all the fat, get to single digit bf% then see what there is to work with, but to do that so soon after pct would be silly as  the muscle I'm now gaining woulg go to waste.
P.S.  Spankwire is your friend hahaha!!

@Tuffy, it's the best and worst feeling in the world.  As for weights, I just started with 160kg which isn't that much but on about the 4th set you're crying "WHHHHHYYYYYY!!!!"  I did 175kg yesterday and that's only the 3rd time doing it.  Just find a weight you can only just finish on mate.

Legs have started tightening up today so I know tomorrow will be murder.

Was sat down last night having a quick read and spotted a quote that gave me a mahoosive kick up the rear
"One cannot actualize his goals until he visualizes them clearly in the mind's eye" - Mike Mentzer

This is something I've been lacking in the last week or so. I feel like I've simply been going through the motions and even at one point thought about sacking the gym off (I shall go and wash my mouth out now!), and for what........ Because I don't look like I want to? Lowest bf% I've ever been in about 15% and that's pretty sh1t for someone who's trained a fair bit. But it's the mind set I get in that stops me progressing further and the ability I have for getting the face on.
At this moment in time I have one of the best trainers I could hope for in Pscarb, a gf who is into training too and about to start kicking ass in the gym again (she had abs not so long ago) and you lot on here kicking my @ss every day (for which I'm grateful).
So the switch has been flicked back to "ON" and it's back to having a cheesy grin.

Not sure if any of the above was needed to be wrote down or even made sense though lol

Like this?

Always good to get your head on straight. A lot of people seem to be finding it a weird time at the minute. There is no motivation to get in shape for summer clothes/holidays and the prospect of Xmas blowouts in just a couple of months means it really doesn't make a whole heap of sense to cut at the minute. The lads were talking about more or less exactly this in the gym last night. Both training partners are keen to cut up a bit but are just resigning themselves to being patient and waiting for the new year.

@Jedi, LOL!!  I hear the xmas thing.  Upto xmas I've planned 4 big things going off (1 is my bday weekender) so it's going to be tough but managable.  It's the usual thing of coming back from holiday though and realising how much fun I have when I'm drunk, although a hangover, fuzzy memories and an empty pocket aren't much fun the day after.  I've just put my gf in touch with OoOGazOoO and she's very keen to get back into training so this will be a good push for me too, so everything is on my side.

@Val, yep I'm back on it like wallace and grommit as my little mate Antz says.

Woke up feeling good again this morning, quads are tightish but hams are worse than yesterday.
Spoke to Paul and from tonight (after last meal) I'll be doing 45mins cardio and then 45mins each morning, tbh I'm pleased with it in a way as I like to be up early in a morning to get all my food preped for the day (I could do it at night but it's far nicer and fresher if done in the morning) and have a little time to chill before work.
Took a pic last night to see how my back was going (it's been deleted now though), sod all definition and some muffin top action but it's looking a lot wider and the "V" is coming good even with a bit of "()" at the bottom. A couple of weeks of morning cardio should see these going down.

Looking forward to chest and bi's today.

You need some Creatine mate, did I mention I had some?

That's straight in with quite a lot of cardio.
Then again, if you're looking forward to it you crack on
Is it a temporary measure do you think?
