Tinned shell fish 07 February 2012 19:58 (permalink)
Can someone advise please ?

I have started to try and eat what i believe as being reasonably healthy.

I have put into my diet some tinned shellfish
eg crab meat. mussels. and prawns.

However the expert of a wife i have tells me that this is bad for me.
To high in chlorestial.

Is this correct.

Thanks

The level of cholesterol a food contains is not what directly affects your cholesterol levels, saturated and other 'bad' fats along with carbohydrates and an all round poor diet will be much worse for your LDL (bad cholesterol) levels.

Tinned shellfish is not something i eat a lot of but i do enjoy it, have a few jars of cockles and mussels in the cupboard i may use this week now!

So is shellfish bad for you ?

I think it maybe a very good source of protein.

Or is to much not good.

It's about keeping a balanced diet and shell fish is not bad for. As said, dietry cholosterol and blood cholesterol are not the same thing

No food is good or bad, it's the whole diet.

Shellfish does not affect your cholesterol, tell your wife Dirtyvest says so ;)

They also say that too many eggs is bad as your cholesterol will be high, I eat a minimum of 3-4 whole eggs a day and my cholesterol is lower than some people's who never eat eggs no doubt as my whole diet is clean.

Eat away, I usually eat shell/fish 3/4 times a week be it cockles, mussels, prawns, crabmeat, fresh salmon etc
