Today's eating and workout... what do ya think girls?? 10 February 2010 23:08 (permalink)
Hi all,

I'd be really chuffed if you could have a quick look at what I've done today !  Any suggestions or comments gratefully received.. thanks

FOOD

(I haven't started to measure anything yet but my portions are probably medium size.. I think??)

8.00 am    bowl of unsweetened muesli, semi skimmed milk, small banana , cup of tea with semi skimmed

11.00 am 2 slices wholemeal toast with scraping of 'proper' butter and a little Mmmarmite  Glass of OJ

2pm large handful of grapes, 3 oatcakes with cottage cheese and hummus, cup of tea

5 pm pot of yogurt (hi fat.. oops), peppermint tea

7.30 pm bolognese (homemade with lean mince), wholemeal spaghetti, loads of carrots and brocolli, a little parmesan cheese.  A mini Magnum... swiftly followed by another... dammit !!  Peppermint tea

10 pm small bowl of muesli, cup of tea

Got to admit I'm not usually this good but didn't have to cook for the family today so could eat what and when I want.

CV WORK

3 1/2 mile brisk walk/jog (cross country, a few hills)

WORKOUT

I usually do 3 sets of 12-15 reps for each exercise, don't know all the names so might have to describe it!

5 mins warm up on stepper

  • leg raises 20Kg
  • thigh adductor/abductor ?? 50kg
  • leg press 60kg
  • side bends 10kg
  • sits ups - lots !  with 3kg medicine ball on some
  • squats and lunges 5kg
  • triceps/biceps curls 5kg
  • shrugs 5kg
  • lateral raise 4 kg
  • lats pulldown? 20kg
  • chest press/shoulder press 5kg

10 mins cool down on treadmill, a few stretches but probably not enough cos they borrring !

I'm in a real rut with this and don't seem to be making any progress apart from keeping my weight stable.  When I read it it looks like I'm doing quite a lot but I hardly ever ache afterwards - not sure if this is good or does it mean I'm not working hard enough ?  Totally want to go for it but not sure what I should be doing?  Trying to get a PT organised but work keeps getting in the way.  Which brings me to another question, how do you all manage your time girls?  There must be a lot of dedication around.. impressive !!

Sorry for going on ! Ta for reading tho...

Lakeslass x

Hey there LL....I can't really comment on anything cos I'm no expert....but why don't you try a split routine like the one I was advised by Kitty?  its on here somewhere....I've found that I've been able to focus more on the weight of the  errrr...errr..weights?..lol since I started this last week and I've gone up to some that I didn't think I'd get to in amonth of Sundays...and I'm aching!...but in a good way....it's GREEEAAAAAAAAT!...oh, sorry, went off on one...I just berluddy love it....heeeeeeeeeeeeeee.....as for time, I guess it's not me your asking that question, but the "real" BB's on here...but i get up at  5ish..head down the gym for 6.15, do a long run, thenoff to work for 7...work until 6/7/8 in the evening, but not every day....sometimes 5ish....then go straight to the gym without even looking in the direction of my house! (too dangerouse)...do my thing in the gym (did you get my little rap there?..lolol)..shower and home..usually have a little scoff and hit the quilt......I mean, if you wanna do it, you just kinda fit it in doncha?....when I get time off work tho' thats the best cos I can do a really hard workout without rushing, head off to the sauna and relax..that is BLISS....providing noone else comes in and starts yakking!!1 which drives me nuuuuuuuuuts!...sorry for long answer, I really am....can't seem to help it....just thank your lucky stars you don'tlive near me IRL...lolololol...have a good day....:)...oh, my weekends I usually go running down the coast or once I went to jog over the seven sisters?...seemed like a good idea at the time but couldn't ferkkooooking walk for about 2 weeks!!...durrrrrr...please remind me nver to do that again!!..hahahah...ok,..really going this time..honest....

Hiya Northerngal, how's it going ?  Ta for your suggestions and yeah I think I try to cram too much into each gym sesh cos I don't get there as often as I should.  Been reading up on routines and stuff and think I'll take your advice (via Kitty) and focus on specific areas at a workout rather than tryin to do the whole body.

Was just interested (well ok, nosey..) to see how folks on here manage to fit everything in? I've got 2 teenage sons and life can kinda revolve around them some days and with crazy work shifts it can be impossible to fit it all in, just finished a 12 hour shift...back at work at 7.30am.. But must keep trying !!

Looking at the food, do you feel hungry last thing to have muesli?  Maybe swap peppermint tea for flavoured green tea.  What time are you training?  Would include more protein, especially mid morning.

If you have stopped seeing progress and you have been doing the same routine for a while, change your routine around.

Not a great deal of protein or healthy fats in your diet, poor exercise order, personally stick to an overall routine at the moment, splits are for more advanced trainers....good luck.

Thanks Hazel and Micky for your advice.  I've always been far too keen on carbs and it's a hard habit to break but you've both picked up on the lack of protein so I'll work on that.  Went to the gym today and worked SOOOOOO hard, upped the weights by as much as I could (actually heard myself grunting at one point.. ooh felt like a proper BB  ) and generally pushed way harder than I usually do.  Lightheaded and very wibbly at the end but it felt GREAT !

Micky, I hope to be in touch in the very near future to organise a visit to Northampton, questionaire on its way to you.

Helloooooo, it's good to push yourself...I do, the very hardest I can given that I train on my own, but I'm sure I would do much more if I had someone giving me earache whilst I'm in the gym....I'm going to try to book a trainer myself when I've saved some dosh.....don't care if I get thown from one end of the gym to the other....brilliant!...whoo hoooo ..bring on the DOMS!...lolol...oooooh get me...DOMS...hahahahaha....proper BB and all that....NOT......as for the carbs LL, I didn't realise I ate so much of 'em till I started reading what to eat and what not to...I've cut down by millions and upped my protein and feel a hundred times better for it....reading loads on this site to help me on the food side, well all sides really...lol....keep going LL.....:):):)

Hi girls, can i just pck up on a little misconception that you DONT have to be a bodybuilder to train hard I have a few of you who seem to be embarrased to make comments because you dont compete, you have as much say as any one else so feel free to say what you like no matter how silly you may feel it may be, we have all been there!!

I can hardly move today but I love that muscle ache !  Goin to run to work this afternoon then run home tomorrow and try to get another sesh in before I go back to work in the evening. Just need to get that protein in me now.  Feel like I'm suddenly on a roll and its so good.  Saw a lat in the mirror this morning.. and it was mine !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

he's no need to feel smug cos I''ll hug anyone!!...I'm a serial hugger, and I frequently launch myself at my friends for a mahoosive full frontal charge when I see them cos I luv 'em!....I will of course try to hold myself back if i meet any of you guys or gals cos I don't think a busted lip would look great, ya know, clash with ma blinde hair an all...lololol....and just so you know if I can't get a hug then I fidget...which kinda has the same effect on people...of wanting to bop me on the hooter!!!...it's a lose lose situation for me....lol
