Toning 25 January 2012 23:16 (permalink)
Hi,
Im trying to tone up a bit for the summer, im not completely out of shape (79kg and16% body fat), but just want to add a little bit of bulk whilst getting my body fat percentage down to around 12 per cent. I started an exercise program of 2 days cardio and 4 days weights around a month ago.

I feel I have been eating well but is there any changes i need to make to my diet which is typically as follows.

Breakfast:  Porridge, 1 Banana
Mid morning: 2 x wholemeal toast, 3 egg whites
Lunch: Tuna Pasta or Tuna sandwich, apple or pear
Post exercise: 1 serving promax immediately
Dinner: 2 chicken thighs, brown basmati rice, salad (lettuce, tomato, peppers, spring onion), low fat yogurt, 1 orange
Evening: 2 rice cakes

Drinks throughout the day: 3 x coffee (1 sugar), 1 x pomegranet juice/orange juice, approx 2 litres of water

Im thinking of maybe adding a promax shake with skimmed milk before bed, is this a good idea?

You probably need protein at every meal including the last one before bed, preferably casein based one(before bed that is). Upping cardio to 3 days a week will probably help you achieve your goal too.

By the way 'toning' is a dirty word around here, you either grow muscle or lose fat. You don't 'tone' but if you mean gain muscle and improve your overall look by lowering bodyfat then yes that's possible.

      Its very low fat

Breakfast add some protein such as another shake

mid morning eat three whole eggs and not just the whites. grilled mushrooms and tomatos are very nice addition to this meal

add in some fish oil and or some small amounts of flax oil (for its omega 3 benefits)

Try and cut on the sugar with your coffee

      Vary your food choices

      Good luck
