Too much? 31 January 2012 09:16 (permalink)
I'm 40 years old 85kg 22% BF
Train BJJ 5hrs a week (4 sessions)  lunchtimes 2 x 1hr 2 x 1.5 hrs
Also training for my 2nd marathon - 4 runs a week 2 x 30 mins Tues/Thurs  Sat 1hr Sun 2hrs - going upto 3 1/2 hrs nearer the end of my training schedule which is 16 weeks) tues/thurs in evening & sat/sun in morning
I also do the stronglifts 5x5 progamme 3 sessions a week, Tus/Thurs/Sat - after my shorter runs.

I dont feel tired, occasionally get a few niggling injuries, primarily from the BJJ but just do not lose any weight or bodyfat%age.

My diet is clean to the point of only getting carbs from weetabix for breakfast then only fruit and veg throughout the day, snack on nuts if I get hungry and the occasional meal replacement on Tues/Thurs mid afternoon.

I ran my first marathon in DEcember 2011 and put 4kg on! Also I live in Singapore where it is very hot & humid so I drink at least 3 litres oof water a day. I also do not drink alcohol.

I was wondering if I'm not eating enough and my body is holding on to fat reserves?

Any thoughts on this as I'm stumped and getting a wee bit fed up as I'm trying to use the marathon training to get my bodyweight down for BJJ competitions this year!

cheers

You are doing quite a lot, you're training with a similar intensity to a professional or full time athlete.

It's likely that you're not eating enough but you would need to put your full diet up for anyone to comment fully on that.

Don't stress about what the scales say, you should, if you eat and train right, put on a few kg as your lean mass increases. Don't stress on BF% either, you are training towards performance goals, the body composition will come as a bonus if you get everything else right.  Measure yourself on progress both in your lifts and your runs.

Get your diet up on here, I suspect you need to be complex carb and electrolyte feeding all that cardio work -  a well structured diet is impotrant and you may need to add some complex carb drinks or gel packs to assist in attaining this, or at the very least and excellent diet where you are feeding the performace and not starving it.

There is a thought that you're overtraining, but it's actually extrememly hard to overtrain if your diet and rest inbetween sessions is spot on, like I say, full time athletes and sportspeople do what you are doing, and more, and for years, but the whole package needs to be better than I suspect yours is.

Bump? Is that a new workout technique?

Not enough food in my opinion.  With your level of activity you should be looking to get a few more carbs in. Your body looks like it's holding fat, and it may even be starting to consume muscle.

Up the carbs a bit. If you copy this into the diet section there's guiys on there that'll be able to give you a much fuller diet plan.
