blitz in harrow is worth a mention its where ablert beckles and burtil fox used to train and has loads of machines from from the 60-70's by the look of them. genisis in alperton is also a very good gym with aloads of strongman and powerlifting stuff aswell as all the latest hammerstrength cybex ect, Nautilus gym in hendon is worth checking out, its full of 1st and 2nd gen Nautilus equipment with some unique machines. muscleworks is probably the most prestigious gym and monsters probably the best equiped. these are all proper bbing gyms not your average fitness first.

The one on golders rise. Just after Golders Green? If so then I used to train there when I was going to the school down the road. Agreed though, great gym. Real blood and guts, spit and sawdust gym. Loved it. Not expensive either. But it's fairly quiet now.
When I get tired and want to stop,
I wonder what my next opponent is doing,
I wonder if he is still working out,
I visualise him,
When I see him still working,
I start pushing myself,
When I see him quit,
I start pushing myself harder.

Have to say Muscleworks in Bethnal Green too. I trained there for three months and it has everything you need. Not sure what you'd gain from visiting there though?

can you explain that a bit more

i changed my body more in four months at muscleworks then one year at YMCA tot court road

I meant as in visiting it as part of a tour of gyms - that applies to all gyms not just MW.

I guess its just out of curiosity like visiting a football ground when no one is playing.

The one in Park Royal is very good also.

I have great memories of Blitz in harrow, I trained their from age 21 to about 29, met some good lads that are still mates...great old machines and loads of dumbells up to 160lbs saw Albert Beckles there and several other pros..

Originally it was in a group with 1 in uxbridge and was called something else...anyone remember that ?

It was £250 for the year paid by post dated cheques....no direct debits in those days

As far as wales goes I believe "kicks" in Swansea was the biggest gym in Wales before the leisure centre there opened, but from what I hear that gym is basically all machines, so Kicks is the place to go.

For equipment then Monster Gym would be hard to beat and for 'credentials' it has to be Muscleworks, Bethnal Green. The pics on the wall in muscleworks are like a 'who's who of bodybuilding'. I train there when I'm in London with work and always made to feel really welcome .. some very big lads training in there as well.

Bruno's Total Rebuild in Rotherham..from some pics of gyms I've seen recently with the tag"spit and sawdust"..Bruno's makes'em look more like "pipe n slippers"

Make sure Evolution at Pear Mill in Manchester is on the list - Paul Booth and John Hodgson's new gym.

It has everything conceivable for bodybuilders and looks like a million dollars (well, it probably cost near that as well ).

Err they said it's not that kind of gym in a post so I'd say that means it shouldn't be on the list.

Nah. They said it's not a powerlifting gym - hence the use of the word "bodybuilders" in my post.

You're right. The gym has everything that's needed by a body builder and everyone else for that matter.

Including two owners that will go out of their way to help you train and give you advice on everything from nutrition, to training, to cardio.

Couldn't ask for a better gym.

And yes I am a member

Thanks for the comments Righty & Red Devil. We are neither a BBers gym or a powerlifters gym per se, but we do have what we consider to be one of the best training facilities in the North of England. It's like the 'proper' Gold's gyms in the U.S (not the watered down limp versions we have over here).

Unless you have been here though, it's difficult to describe (so get your butt over here).

Elite in Yeovil is very good. Wide variety of equipment, 3 bespoke squat racks, some very unique machinery too. The owner built it on the basis of what he'd want to train on, what had frustrated him about using other gyms.

Offers cheap suppliments, I'm getting Reflex whey cheaper than a link I found on here.

Owner is a really decent bloke, keen to help and is looking at expanding the gym, more room for deads and extra cardio stuff too.

Its an awesome gym, but be aware that unless your an elite athlete (u may well be) then the gym is shut for a large proportion of the day to most users. U have to train there either very early in the morning or late on in the evening as its either shut, or stupidly busy the rest of the time.
