Topless pics of the Dutchess...

In NI they can still arrest you for taking pictures of the police/ police cars etc if they want.
Just an old thing that hasn't been amended since the old days.
Reading on another site, it seems the point of this is that the Closer mag is basically a mag for this kind of thing, they actually budget for any legal challenges, and will sell out, make profit, and get them the publicity they want.

There's a world of difference between what's legal and what's 'right'. Sadly, scumbag tabloids skirt as close to the edge of legality as is possible in order to publish tawdry stories or topless pics of famous people.

If I'm stood arse naked for the world to see from my window, and someone takes a pic, that's my problem.
 
Privacy is governed by line of sight - if you can be seen, don't have any illusions of privacy just because you are on private land.
 
With regard to military stuff, etc - yep, snap away as far as I'm concerned - again, if they've something they want hidden, don't leave it in plain frigging sight!!!
 
The fundamental issue when trying to stop anything like this is as per my original post - where is the line? When does someone taking a photo, from public ground, become an intrusion of something/someone on private land? If you set the bar at "this was intrusion" because a duchess got nudie pics taken when she should have known better, then you set a president for all sorts of innocuous photos becoming illegal.
 
i.e. you can't let idiots ruin the freedom of being able to take photos of what you can see...
 
Now, had the photographer been stood on the private land, that's another matter, regardless of whether what was seen could be seen from public land or not, if he/she were there without permission, he/she has no right to capture the images.

Fair enough, hypothetically, so someone climbs a ladder to get a good vantage point on your bedroom window, takes a few snaps of your missus through a gap in the curtains, then puts them on facebook and the internet, this is perfectly fine according to you?

Totally agree with Tony. If you're going to stand half naked then expect someone to take a photo.

I often bang my mrs in the living room with a large front room window to the road. If someone walked past and snapped me on their phone, then facebooked it, yeah, it'd be odd behaviour but my fault for not drawing the curtains.

Regarding your last line, yes, invading someones privacy is wrong, and should be punished - but if you can be seen from a public place, you cannot expect ANY definition of privacy to apply to what you are doing.

to be fair it shows the level of double standards as cant remember the royal family complaining or the "outraged" british public for that matter when princess stephanie was snapped time and time again topless and printed in british press, so why should our royals be treated any different from other countries, we cant have a culture of we'll print anything we can about a foreign royal but they best not try and print any pictures of ours
