Training while on Prohormones? 02 February 2012 09:47 (permalink)
i just wanted to get some opinions and see what gents do while on cycle with ph"s and pct. ( For Mass/Bulk )
i have always just gone up in weight and not changed my reps do to wanting to gain size and strength and have done just that, but i have been reading ppl say to go up in weight slowly but mostly go up in reps so your muscles, joints and all of the above doesnt tear or get ruined by the new weight you are pushing so fast.
so the question is, is go up in weight and stay at the reps (8-10) like you would without ph or go up in reps until that weight is clearly not enough and slowly add weight until pct then go heavy?
i might be posting this in the prohormone section, but i figured this is the training section so ill post it here first...

Repost this in the PH section, you'll probably get a better response from some people more versed in the subject.

In my opinion, you should periodise your program to accompany your supplementation cycle with a steady but large increase in volume, to make use of your body's ability to recover quicker whilst on cycle, and also to prime the body for recovering better while your system is suppressed as you come off.

During your cycle, start off with a moderate intensity and moderate to high volume and increase intensity over time by gradually bringing rep ranges down and simultaneously increase volume so that when you cycle off, you can cut volume whilst your recover powers will be limited. This way you can then focus on lower rep ranges and recruitment, and theoretically you may be more likely to hold onto any mass you have gained.

As I say, this is kind of from a periodisation standpoint, I'm not too clued up on PH supplementation, so maybe some of the other guys will be able to input more.

Personally the way I go about it is:

by the time I'm getting ready to do a course I aim to be doing around 7-10 reps (at whatever max weight that happens to be for each exercise).

When I start the course as the weeks go on and my strength increases I up the reps but keep the same weight until I'm hitting around 15 reps.

Then I will up the weights a little bit so that I'm back down to aorund 10 reps. Then by the end of the course I'd expect to be hitting 15 reps on this new increased weight.

Then when I hit PCT and my body has no testosterone, feels ruined and is not in a great state for building muscle I am in a great place to up the weight more and drop reps back to 5-6 and still maintain what I've put on over the course...

ok, cool. thats what i figure most ppl do as i have read... i have always just stayed at same rep range and slapped on more plates which killed my joints and other things afterwards.
i will post this in the ph section to see if i can get anymore replies, but thank you for your advice..sounds like a plan.

You have to remember when you increase the reps you are switching from fast twitching fibers to slow twitching fibers. Personally, I believe you are overthinking the issue.

Instead of going from 10 to 15 reps I would go from 8 to 12, once you hit twelve reps go for weight you can bench 8 times.

All I really wanted to say is just that you have to remember that the muscle consists of different fibers that react to different types of stimuli. ;)
Therefore, depending on the length of the cycle, I would stick with one rep scheme or try to alternate the reps in each workout, do 15 reps -> 10 ->5 and so forth or 5 -> 10 -> 15 ;)
A pyramid to hit all fibers.

          Just food for thought.

            ok thanks,
i was thinking th same thing about the reps, changing the reps to mean means changing the workout goals, but i have read that some of the guys will not throw so much weight on so fast do to muscle and shoulder problems, thats why they go up to 15..but 1 seems high to me because im not there to gwt ripped, but to put on mass which i like to stay between 8 and 12 for.

Well, personally I don't believe you get ripped by doing 15 reps, it just uses slow twitching fibers and therefore increases your endurance or stamina, but doesn't get you any more ripped than doing 5 reps, lol.

BUT, 8-12 reps is perfect for hypertrohpy (muscle building). I don't like going much lower on reps and up on the weights since the possibility of getting hurt is obviously higher, and obviously that would just plain ruin everything, lol. PCT I've heard is a good time to hit low reps and high weights but, personally, I would still mix it up due to Fiber type I, II, etc.

Originally, fibers were identified as type I, IIA, or IIB.1,5 More recently, types IC, IIC, IIAC, and IIAB

A lot of different fibers that respond to different exercises, speeds, and reps. ;)

But yeah... keep it simple just go to the gym regularly and it'll be fine. ;) :D
