Trying to get back in shape at 46 06 November 2011 18:33 (permalink)
Hi all,
Good to be a part of the forum. Thought i had better introduce myself.
During the 90's I was at a pretty high standard and was preparing for my first show when disaster struck. I broke my neck in a car accident and had to retire from the gym as i has severed my nerve that controlled the all muscle on my right side. almost overnight I lost considerable size as the muscle started to wither away. It wasn't the best time in my life.
Anyway that was back then and many years have passed. The nerve system has now re-grown and I am ready to see what these old bones can do I am currently teaching Martial Arts which keeps me mobile but would love to get the buzz from packing some size back on.
I am 6.4 and currently just over 15 stone. Luckily I do not carry much fat and can quite easily lose it when I need to.
As with most people time is limited as my job has me traveling quite frequently. I was hoping to be able to hit the gym around 3 times a week and supplement this with my martial arts which i teach twice a week.
I would really appreciate any advice or comments that you guys have about training at middle age. I was going to start with a basic routine of bench, chins, curls. What do you think??
Many thanks
Paul

Good luck mate , glad to hear your well.

I find that you need a bit more recouperation time as you get a bit older, apart from that its pretty much the same as when i was 30 (46 now)

Good luck with the training man - just make sure you get plenty of good nutritious food in ya, drink plenty of water and take you vitamins. All the best.
