Unflavoured Whey Taste
03 March 2010 14:53
( permalink)
Did a search on this but couldn't find much. Can anyone give me an accurate description of what unflavoured whey tastes like? I've heard some people say it tastes just like milk, and I've heard others say it tastes awful. (I love milk) All I hope is it doesn't taste anything like Reflex 'Natural' Whey, which I found to be virtually undrinkable. Cheers!

It has a bland milk-like taste. Kind of like when you try a new type of milk when you were a kid (skimmed, goat, gold top, whatever) it's that kind of thing, it tastes a bit like milk but not what your used to. My mate loves milk, but can't drink unflavoured whey. It's easy to flavour though. If you want to flavour it without any cals, then use sweetener tabs and cake flavouring (vanilla is a good one). If it's part of a PWO shake, then I use milkshake powder which is just dextrose and flavouring.

Hello there, I use unflavoured as the flavoured ones make me feel sick!... It tastes like watered down skimmed milk...I've had it with skimm milk, about 150mls, and it's just like errrr...well..skimmed milk, and with water, same amount, about the same but thinner...I much prefer this. I don't really like sweet stuff which is prolly why i don't get the flavoured ones so this suits me fine... Good luck with it....

I used to use it and put a sachet of options hot choc powder in with it. I find it more useful for doing bars etc.

All i know is Mp's tastes awful. Drink it make you wanna be sick awful. You got to add alot of flavour to it to make it taste decent, you might as well buy flavoured. However unflavoured blended in with banana and abit of sugar goes down well.

So the general consensus is that it tastes sort of like milk? Sounds ok to me. The only reason I was skeptical is because I have tried Reflex's naturally flavoured whey and it was disgusting, and I figured it might be similar, given the lack of flavouring, sugar, etc. I was planning on using Bulk Powders. Anyone have any experience with their unflavoured?

Ice - so basically are you saying: a) It doesn't actually taste like bland milk (the way most other people are describing it), or; b) It does taste like bland milk...but you just find that to be horrible?? I totally trust your judgment dude, but I think I remember you saying some thing in your journal a while ago about you not being able to eat some type of food...cottage cheese was it? Whereas I love cottage cheese, so I'm thinking maybe you just have a really different palate to me??

The unflavoured stuff from bulkpowders is pretty much how you'd expect an unflavoured milkshake to taste. Can't say I particularly like the taste but it's not so bad that it makes you heave.Posts like this remind me of an old Arnold saying,"If I was told eating a kilo of sh1t would give me muscles I would eat a kilo of sh1t."Ha ha.Get it down your neck it can't be that bad.

...taste is subjective! That said many nowadays don't know they're born. I remember the days... Stood at the reception desk of (original) Muscleworks necking the lumpy and chalky, under flavoured yet glassy tasting egg and milk protein shake Sav had just blended for me. Ahhh happy days.

I remember the old Weider protein 2000 or whatever it was called. It was truly an appalling gloopy mess.Still drank it though.Well half drank, half ate.

If you're used to flavoured then I'd say you wont enjoy unflavoured at all and will see it as a chore. I always had unflavoured whey and used to for years before buying a branded flavoured product and had no problem, however now i used myofusion there is no chance im going back! As said, taste is subjective, just get a few samples.

Price is the reason I go for unflavoured, simple as that.Just ordered 5kg of protein from bulkpowders for 35 quid. For a branded flavoured alternative I would guess you'd pay double that.

Some members were picking up 10kg of nutrisport 90+ for £72 iiirc from superfit(?) Unflavoured will always be cheaper of course, but there are always good deals on branded flavoured protein.

Really?I stand corrected that sounds like a good deal. The last time I was tempted to buy branded I was definitely put off by the price.Going back a bit now though I've had unflavoured for a good while now.

Drew Price ...taste is subjective! I know taste is subjective! That's why I asked somebody to give an accurate description of what it tastes like (ie. similar to skimmed milk), as opposed to asking was it simply nice or not (ie. it's disgusting)! I guess I'll just have to get some samples... The only reason I'm getting it is the price btw, I'm skint at the moment!
