We need to talk about Kevin.. Anyone else watched it?

Watched this last night and thought it was the biggest load of ****e I have ever sat through. Apparantly according to the bird if you read the book it means more but the gaps in it were insane I didnt even know what jobs the characters had until I asked. And the story WTF made no sense to me. Perhaps this was just over my head but I didnt rate it. Anyone else got any thoughts on it. ?

i read the book first . i think you really need to have read it . its very disturbing , i though maybe it was only disturbing for women who have suffered postnatal depression or attachment issues, but my other half found it disturbing from a totally different perpective. However, he hated it (because it made him feel stuff he didnt want to) so you're not alone. I found it (the book) difficult emotionally , boring at the start, but built in intensity and it stayed with me long after i'd finished it. i do totally get you how it would make no sense at all at the start if you hadnt read the book. i did TELL my other half to read it first, but no....!!!!

Well least you had the good sense to tell your other half to read it I was just thrown in cold lol. I just didnt get it especially when he was ****ting himself etc and in nappies made next to no sense to me then when she broke his arm I was like wtf this is just weird. Cant say I felt anything other than bored from it if i am honest. Also what happened to his siste and the guinea pig i was like wtf did i miss something :S all in all very weird

yeah, i think you maybe have to be a mum to understand how toileting/nappies can be TOTALLY about a power struggle. Kevin knew what he was doing. he was playing her the whole time. Although the question is, did she make him like that by being a distant mum in the first place. How intentional did it start off being? Its all about nature vs nurture. did she create the monster? the guinea pig , in the book it is very very clear what she thought happened, which probably did happen.......and with celia's eye, and there were much fewer clues in the film, you could almost miss the totally shocking relevance

the film didnt highlight the mothers former life, where she was a 'somebody' (famous travel writer), her fall to being 'just' a mum of this child that appeared to battle with her from birth, i totally got that which is why i could relate to it - but even if you read the book you would prob hate it lol

Missing so much this film, was expecting to be moved and stir maybe some feelings. Th only feeling it did stir was pure boredom. Didn't know there was a book, wished I did read that first.

would be quite interested to see if reading the book changes your view of it. Although the second quarter of the book is tedious i will admit
