Standard olympic bar (like this) is 20kg. As for smaller bars, there is no real standard. What smaller bar are you talking about exactly? Do you mean an EZ Curl Bar? Standard olympic style EZ curl bar is around 7.5kg I believe. Otherwise, most gyms have weighing scales in them, nothing stopping you from weighing it to find out!

I think he's referring to a standard bar with 1" holes! In which case it'll be less than 20k.

This annoyed me to know end before when I used 2/3 gyms. I wish they could print the weight on the bars. Just would make life a little simplier.

That is a bloody good idea! I agree it can be annoying. In the first gym I ever joined all the bars were the same weight, they looked like standard olympic bars and all the trainers and staff said they were standard olympic bars. This being the first and ONLY gym I had ever been in, who was I to argue as I had nothing to compare them to! But it turns out all of those bars were 2-3kg lighter, only around 17 or so, and I didn't realise this until I joined another gym that actually did have standard olympic bars!

Good Olympic bars will have the weight printed on the end of the bar, where the cover over the bearings is.
