What's best for breakfast when bulking up?
05 May 2011 17:24
( permalink)
I've been on this forum a while and have been a gymgoer for a few years now, but recently I've felt more motivated than ever to get the body I want - bulk up a bit and get my body fat right down. Until February I was using a personal trainer, with whom I made great progress in terms of definition and toning, but I'm still struggling to get above around 75kg. Am eating lots of protein-rich foods - chicken, tuna, nuts etc - and taking protein shakes every day, but I don't seem to getting any bigger. Are there any other protein-rich foods people can suggest - particularly ones I could enjoy at breakfast time? (And before anyone says eggs, I can't eat them because I have an allergy to them!) I'm training 4x a week by the way.

A full english! Or a whey shake, 6 raw eggs, milk, all whizzed up and drank and a bowl of porridge or muesli.. then add a glass of orange juice or some fruit. there's plenty of smoothie ideas foating about on the site as well!

if your going to bulk up you will put some fat on. how much depends on how clean your diet is. so usually people either choose to bulk or loose fat, which ever is more important as it would be very difficult to do both at the same time. if you choose to bulk, up your total calories, maybe by around 300/500 per day above maintenance. for protein for breakfast you could have mackerel, tuna, sardines, chicken, even protein shake. just whatever protein you like. maybe better to include a protein shake anyway which ever you choose as your body will need protein fast after starving all night. dont forget to have plenty of carbs too throughout the day, you also need carbs to grow

did everyone miss the bit about him having an egg allergy? lol What about some fromage frais mixed with some flavoured protein powder? I sometimes have 200 grams of fromage frais (16 grams of protein) 100 grams of greek yogurt (5 grams of protein) and it has to be the full fat stuff too lol half a scoop of flavoured whey (15 grams of protein) - mix all that together Then add a small handful of chopped nuts (10-15 grams or so) then sprinkle 10-20 grams of muesli on top and then have a bowl of porridge! Luuuuuurverrrly!

I usually rotate between Steak, Venison, lean lamb steaks, and what other wild red meat I can source. Buffalo is good.
I love the smell of steak in the morning...

Steak and eggs great! However as my budget and time cannot stretch to a nice bit of meat every morning I just make a smoothy with skimmed milk powder, fruits and oats. I also add in a little oil and choc powder. Bearing in mind I do not fear carbs :)

best bulking break fast, ful english imo 2 slice toast, 1 full tin beans, 3 eggs, 200g bacon, (bacon bites is cheaper than bacon rashers) 3 sausage, 1pint fresh orange juice. all cooked in non-still frying pan so no oil. im sure it worked out at 1200-1500cals high carb prot and fat. or you could swap the 1pint juice for double cream with frozen mixed fruit with ice blended into a smoothy, 1000cals per pint easy lol, not that healthy tho. but imo the full english is fine as most of the fat is drained out on the non stick frying pan and no extra oil is added

if your not getting above 75kg, then you are simply not eating enough every day. eat more. track your calories and i bet you are eating too little. its not just about how much protein, its about how many calories and the macros you use within the calorie range. up your calories by anothr 500 and you will gain.
