    Hi!

After a long lay off I thought I'd post here, used to be quite active here over a decade ago (was it that long??) before the server change, hence the low post count.
I was at one point a competitive amateur  bodybuilder (though nothing special, it was a hobby) - the biggest weight loss I had was for contest prep back in 2002 where I dropped from an off season weight of 280lbs down to 220lbs in 16wks of cutting which was bloody hard work! I trained religiously from 1998 to 2007 when half way through the year I was diagnosed with Lymphoma, a type of blood cancer - I've been healthy(ish) for a while now but haven't trained since 2007 so nearly five years.
I started going back to the gym about 2 weeks ago, mostly because I'd moved house and their is a pretty decent old school gym on my doorstep so I've not had any excuse not to go. It's a lot harder than I remember! I'm not looking to get back to anywhere near where I was, the level of dedication to commit to bodybuilding like in the past is just something I don't have any more but I'd still like to look better than I do now!
Currently I'm tipping the scales at a hefty 315lbs @ 6ft 1" but I'm still carrying some muscle underneath the flab. I'm hoping to be down to around 260lbs by the back end of the year. I'm not a stranger to losing weight so hopefully I can keep the motivation up and keep pounding the gym!
I've attached a couple of pics I took in the gym last week and hopefully upload a couple more in a months or so time to see what the difference is :)

I lost about 25 pounds and gained some muscle tone about 5 years ago on a protein diet. Measuring my protein and exercising regularly became a habit.

Well I've been working out 4 times a week now since the 27th of December - so nearly a month, here's the progress pics so far:

I've lost 12lbs so far. Losing the body hair definitely helps looks wise!
Still a long way to go but it's nice to see early progress and it feels good being a regular at the gym again :)

Im no bodybuilder but after doing nothing for 12years i balloned up to 18 stone anyhow 4 months later im down to 16 still really flabby around the mid riff but this is really lose getting toned under all the excess fat doing cardio twice a week for around 35 a time and a few toneing excercises with curling bar and bodylastic resistance bands
Just wish i could boost the fat burning of the mid riff!

My body don't like converting glucose from protein (bit of a carb type) so if I eat a 40% protein 30%carbs and 30%fat diet (all good sources) I can nearly lose weight with out exercise. Add in cardio and weight lifting I know for a fact I can lose weight when ever I want, its all about working out your body type is I think. First time I did that macro split with strict training I lost 7 pounds in one week and no strength loss..

Edit - And I'd just like to say a thank you to Will brink for his science no bull**** approach to fat lose and weight lifting, got me on the right track, would recommend fat loss revealed

Hi All, I am a bit of a lurker, been a member for a long long time. Not really qualified to help anyone so just read and soak up the knowledge. I wanted to share my story with my weights/fitness and diet over the last few years. I got my first set of weights aged 14 – 26 years ago! God sounds awful when you say it!  I have been training on and off for many years. My first regime was, from memory, the weider system. Big folder with loads of exercises and different books. I use to be out in my garage pumping iron for hours on end!

Had kids got married you know priorities changed lost motivation, but training never really left my thoughts if you know what I mean. I always dabbled from time to time and kept my equipment.

Around mid early 30’s (age not 1930’sJ) started to get motivated again and discovered MT. Read a lot and tried to put it into practice what I was learning. Joined the gym and determination was coming back. Was at about 17st and I am only 5’10 so really overweight. Dropped down to about 15st.

In 2008/09 I completed the Eton and Windsor triathlons and the great north run. Absolutely best thing I have ever done. I weighed around 14st at the time.

Had some back issues and trained on and off  for last couple of years but hit 40 last year and decided enough is enough. Had crept back up to 17st and thought to myself, I came into life screaming and kicking and I sure as hell am going out the same way.  I have taken all the things I have learnt from MT and now I really go for it properly, for the first time really.  The guys at work think I am mad when they hear my hand mixer buzzing in the kitchen. They think I am barking mad having oats in cold water with some strawberry looking stuff and eating cold brown rice and salmon. I got Lamb today for a change with brown rice. I am down to 15st now thanks to what I have learnt here.  I eat properly now I no longer tell people I am big boned!!!!

I actually consider myself knowledgeable now in the correct way to train and eat thanks to MT, although I use it myself as I am not qualified to give out advice.  I think my wife likes the new slimmer, fitter, stronger me also.

Hello guys, just joined this forum and it's exactly what i've been looking for.
I was the typical fat kid growing up, i never thought that everything i was eating was doing so much damage to my body, i'd go after school and eat chips/sweets with my friends, drink coke, all that usual stuff, up until 3 years ago i never really noticed until i saw myself in a picture while out with friends. As most of you probably know, on a night out theres a load of pictures taken and i used to look at these pictures and think wow, thats me, i'm the fat guy of the group and honestly it destroyed my self confidence and who i was as a person, i felt terrible about myself.

I was only 19 and i thought that for the rest of my life, i'm going to be a fat person, honestly no-one knows how it feels to grow up being fat unless you've done it yourself. I wasn't a loser or anything i had a bunch of friends around me and a lot of real people, i was never upset about my weight, i'd just ignore it and find something else to moan about, but after seeing myself in a photo i thought no way, i'm too big i need to change.

So i hit the gym with my boy, started running for 20 minutes, cross trainer for 20 minutes then weights. While my friend was more into the cardio, i wanted to progress with weights so we kind of went our own ways. I started out at 18 stone, which i believe is 118 kilos, i got it down to 100kilos which is about 15 stone while progressing with weights. I went from benching 30 to benching 70 (All kg's), dumbbells went from 10kg to 22.5kg and so forth.

Then i slacked because of lack of finances. But losing weight is one of the most greatest things i ever did, received non stop comments from friends, putting a new pic of facebook meant my wall was flooded with people not believing that it was me, received a whole load of compliments from people i never knew cared, it was such a confidence booster that i had never felt before, getting stares from girls in the street.

Honestly this has been the greatest time period of my life and i've made a promise to myself that i won't stop till i look like members of this site. I'm so glad that i found a place like this that i can come here and gain motivation from others on the days that i'm feeling negative about myself like today.

Anyway, i'm sorry for boring y'all with these paragraphs, but i just have a lot of built up 'fatness' :P inside of me that i need to express.
I look forward to being a member of this community for a long time!

This is me having gradually cut down on my carbs. Fats have always been low but I'm eating much more chicken now. Sometimes just 3 chicken breasts for dinner. For me my diet has helped more than the cardio. Which I still do but with the lower carbs it's not as easy as when I used to have my normal (quite highish) amounts of carbs.

Sadly my best weight loss was getting ill.

I had been planning a healthy month and to lose 5kg.  After a week with a stomach bug I had reached my target.  Kept it off as well!

                                  Afternoon folks.

My story, brief as it is, started when my girlfriend of 5 years and the woman I want to marry told me that she wasn't happy.  She said in not so many words that she was no longer attracted to me and that I had stopped making any effort at home.

So, one long hard look in the mirror later and I realised that I'd turned into a slob! A fat, lazy, apethetic slob who drank too much.  Not a good look.

So I had two choices, I could give up and let her go! The one woman I can truly see myself getting old with or I could pull my finger out and get my fat arse in shape.  So I decided to have a browse on here, after having been a member previously when I trained 6-7 years ago, and look up some of the great advice that's been offered to various people over the years.  I also had a good read through this thread and took a lot of inspiration.

I need to shed a fair amount of Bodyfat, and who better to talk to than the guys and girls that do it on a regular basis as their passion?

Well, a month in and it's all looking pretty good, I feel like a better person.  I'm organised at home, I'm more energetic and I'm taking a lot more time to look good for my good lady.  I've cleaned my diet right up, packed up drinking altogether and I'm training hard, grafting day in and day out to make her proud of me.  Most of all, I'm loving it! I've never felt better.

I started at a shade over 16st 7lbs and a month in I'm kicking around the 15st 3lbs mark, the first time in over 4yrs that I've been under 16st.  I'm lifting heavy and enjoying that so figure that Bodybuilding could be my thing once I've reached a sensible start point.

I'll post up pics when there's more noticable progress.

I just want to say that for anyone reading this and wondering whether they can do it or not, some will want to do it but will be nervous in the gym like I first was.  Everyone in the gym is there for the same reason, they are not satisfied with their bodies.  The bulkers all would like to be bigger, the shredders all want to be leaner and the fat lad wants to look like either one! It doesn't matter, it's one man (or woman), one target and a shedload of help to get you there.  Do it, it could be the best decision you ever make!

I've been on a weight loss kick since the end of January.
I've lost a good amount by simply changing how much I eat, cutting out most of the crap foods, and drinking less (not none!) alcohol.

This has led to my wife, who's a personal trainer (www.getfit4it.co.uk) telling me that I'll not be able to keep the weight loss up without alos doing lots of exercise...  so far she's wrong! hee hee - she may be right when I start getting closer to my ideal weight.. we'll see!!

                                    So, I'm 6'6". Back in January I weighed a whopping 19st 7.6lbs
I'm now down to 16st 10lb - and I've had a couple of weeks of being back in the old habits, and rather than pile weight on, I've stayed around the same weight, which is rather a relief!!!

My target for the end of the year is 14 stone...

                                    How have I done it?

To start with, I just ate less - not suddenly 'starvation' less, but rather instead of taking 4 sarnies into work, I'd take 3 - that kind of thing. I also cut out snacking on nuts, and reduced the amount of other snacking, restricting it to only fruit, and then no more than 4 a day.

I stopped buying ANYTHING from my works canteen - even the soups were packed with fat.

I kept eating normal evening meals, just watched how much I was having, and if I got hungry later on, I just made a massive mug of black, redbush (caffeine free) black tea.

                                    And that's it!

I'm terrible about doing regular exercise - I do a bit, then lose interest. I do some cycling, really enjoy it for a week or two, then get bored and want a break from it...

So controlling food intake has really been the only route for me!

                                    So far, it's still working
