thanks guys. diet currently involves a lot of fruit and veg! im still cutting so typical day will involve
breakfast-banana and a low fat yoghurt
lunch- salad or sandwich on granary bread with more fruit
tea-reasonably healthy meals, always with huge portion of salad to keep me filled up.
if i get hungry during the day il just have some extra fruit or bags of snack a jacks which i find quite filling.

Re:What's your weight loss story? - 16 August 2009 19:24
OK, this is my first post, so here we go...

I’ve been weight training since I was about 14-15, but didn’t do anything for the last couple of years. In Feb 2009 my weight rocketed to 87kg/192lbs (from the usual 73-75kg).

I joined the gym and spent 1 month killing myself with weights and cardio (treadmill) ....and it got me exactly nowhere; I was still at 87kg! That was without a proper diet, just basically doing weights and cardio. I was trying to eat healthier but not really paying any attention to the number of calories I was consuming (I thought that counting calories was for women, no offence :) )

Realising I’m basically wasting my time I decided to Google for some information and suprise suprise muscletalk came up.
After reading up for couple of days I took the following steps:

  • Introduced more cardio; doing 5 days a week outside, instead of 2 x 20min session in the gym. I started with 20 mins slowly progressing to 1 hour (8 miles) and occasionally doing 1 hour 30 (12 miles) mins on Saturday/Sunday if i felt like doing a bit more. I use to absolutely hate cardio, but I do really enjoy it now!
  • Started counting calories. The first time I counted how much I ate in a day I was truly shocked! It came to about 4500k! And that was after I sort of switched to a “healthier” diet. Had to completely change my diet, threw away everything I ate before; introduced plenty of veg, cottage cheese (love that stuff), turkey stakes, wheat bran (excellent filler!)

And after couple of weeks I got to a point where I was steadily losing 0.7kg a week (edit: was "a month")!

Sometimes I felt like it wasn’t worth it and was thinking of giving it up (that would usually be after a heavy cardio session J) but the next day I was ready to do more. I was also trying to spice up my routine by getting myself new toys every couple of weeks, either a new supplement or a gadget something like a watch with a heart rate monitor etc. Think that really helped the motivation J

In the very beginning of all this (Mar 09) I set a very very optimistic target for myself: to reach 72kg by 1st of July 09 (15kg/33lbs loss). There was absolutely no way I could actually reach that target but still decided to keep to push myself harder.
Well, by 1st of July my actual weight was 71.4kg! Could probably get it down all the way to 68kg but thought that at 68kg I would look more sick that healthy. (I’m 6’0)

This is me almost at the end of the cut (15 June 09 I think, at appx 74.5 kg)

Since then I have been slowly lean bulking; I’m now 75kg and looking a lot fuller.

I know its not the most radical transformation but for me its a result :) I never actually lost any weight before!

Thank you to speak me! J

Re:What's your weight loss story? - 19 August 2009 11:24
Thanks a lot!

I didn’t expect to do that well myself. Not that I think I’ve done exceptionally well, but in the beginning I thought I would be able to lose couple of kilos, well max 5kg and then the whole thing (diet & exercise) would become so intolerable that I would eventually give up. I was shocked to find that actually I was enjoying it even more everyday and as soon as I started seeing noticeable results in the mirror (2 months) I was determined to go all the way.

Next target: lean bulk to around 80kg and get absolutely ripped (7-9%) for my holiday in Jan 2010

Update (22 Aug 09)
Wanted to ask for a BF% estimate in another thread, so took a new picture this morning.

Just wanted to say what a great achievement and ask if you noted down a typical day/weeks diet that you could share?

Terrier, thank you

Not the best diet in the world, but here it goes (typical 4 days)

P.S: If I were to do it again I would change few things:  would drop the protein shake completely, add more fiber and eat a bit more in the evening

What I've learned about weight loss is that, all we need is a lot of patience, lot of hard work and most importantly consistency....
They lead us to the perfect result...

Hi there and welcome to MT,

May I suggest you start a seperate thread in the weight loss forum, then you will be able to get more specific advice and hopefully more members will see your questions and be able to help accordingly

Welcome to MT and well done on the weight loss!
I'm sure many members would like to know how you have achieved such fantastic results.  Could you do a short explanation of what you regime was like?

Thanks!

Thank you!

I started off with breakfast ceral bar at 7 with black coffee then 2 shredded wheat with skimmed milk and a banana at 10 and 1 then weight watchers ready meal at about 6 after i had done either excersice bike or a run!. Started at 15 mins and just incresed more and more think i have had 5-6 days of no cardio in the whole 9 weeks!!

Now changed in the last 2 weeks to doing 3 day split weights and cardio on the other 4 days run or bike (now running for 30-60 mins)

Now eating around 150-170 grams protein porridge oats, rice cakes etc (not had one cheat item the whole time as of yet!!)

hoping to lose more fat and regain or build as much muscle as poss and would love to see my 6 pack as never have!!

ps would love to know what bf% i might be?

Calipers are useless. BF% is just a number and most confuse water under the skin with BF. Go by the mirror, the tape measure, and how your jeans fit

Stonking progress Bazz, should be proud of yourself!

Brilliant progress Baz!

Other members should note, though, that 4 stones in 9 weeks is not going to be achievable for many, nor is it really advisable, so progress for themselves shouldn't be measured against Baz's superhuman effort

This is my favortie picture on the web...... (no im not gay, hear me out lol)
Every time I get a bit disheartened about my loose skin and think "oww **** it just binge you look alright with a top on now" I come back to this photo and it inspires me to keep cutting !!
I was pretty much the same as the bigger version of iopener above....

I was about 19.7 stone and went down to 12.8 stone in about 5 months...... I balloned back up (thanks to a psychotic ex girlfriend that did nothing but feed me ??) to 17 stone but a couple of months ago got back on it AND IM STAYING ON IT FOR LIFE NOW !! im currently sitting around 13.4 and im not stoping until Im in the 9(odd)% BF catagory....

Hi All,

I guess this is probably not the easiest thing to post up but I hope that this post might help some other people that are just starting out and trying to lose weight / bodyfat.  This forum has been a huge help when I have struggled so if this post helps just one person it will be worth it.

I was always very lean as a teenager and played a fair bit of sport but gradually this tailed off as I entered my twenties and by the time I hit thirty I was very overweight and unfit.  Things were not going well for me at this point and I ended up getting divorced not being allowed to see my kids etc and became virtually alcoholic.

The years passed and a very unhealthy lifestyle was taking its toll I was drinking very heavily to try and escape my problems and would eat rubbish the whole time.  Anyway at my heaviest I was just over 18st with a 42" waist and I am 5 ft 11.

I dont recall exactly what the trigger was but one day I decided enough was enough and so decided to start my journey.  I look back on the initial few months and shudder now I still feel disgusted with myself for getting in such a state.

At the outset I struggled to do any cv without my heart pounding and feeling like I was gonna keel over and die!

Over the next twelve months I cut right back on my drinking and cleaned up my eating habits, I didn't follow a 'diet' as such just cut out all fatty / sugary foods, takeaways etc.

I am not gonna say there has been a few wobbles along the way because there has and I have struggled to motivate myself from time to time.  I have been really committed this past five months and train six days a week which is usually a 45 min cv session in gym or road run and every other day I train in the morning fasted for thirty mins.  I also do abs exercises every other day.

Recently I have asked for some help with a weights routine to introduce although I am very inexperienced at this side of things.  Hopefully this will help me progress even further.

My current stats are age 36, waist 32" and weight is 12st 9 lbs.

My main goal is to try and have a decent set of ABS for next summer and be confident to take my top off in public or on beach.

I am not sure what my bodyfat % is although the research on here leads me to believe a low bf% is as much a part of good abs as exercising.

In summary if you are reading this and you are just starting out please believe it can be done and you must not despair.  If like me you looked at every way to cut corners like ECA etc forget it there is no way to achieve it in a short period of time I have learnt that.

My other advice would be not to let a bad day put you off everyone has wobbles along the way surely?

I have better self esteem now, am more confident and love having fitness as part of my life.  If you are just starting out I cannot begin to describe the feeling when someone you havent seen for a while compliments me it is the best feeling in the world.

Finally a big thank you to all that post on this forum it has been a huge help esp Red Hot F's story that motivated me right at the start, good luck to everyone.

Sean
